Expect A Lot More Transformers Films Coming Your Way
Paramount wants to borrow the Star Wars model, as it seeks to expand the Transformers movie universe with new sequels and spin-offs.
The Transformers universe is set to expand dramatically, as the film’s studio, Paramout, is aiming to roll-out (we had to) numerous spin-off movies.
This should come as no surprise as Transformers: Age of Extinction was the biggest money-maker in 2014, leading to the decision of whether to continue the franchise being a no-brainer.
It’s unclear yet whether Michael Bay will return to direct the next sequel, given that he’s currently working on the drama, 13 Hours (although he slotted Pain & Gain in between the last two Transformers movies), but Mark Wahlberg has said that he has signed on for numerous Transformer films. Whether Bay does or doesn’t helm the next movie, plans will go ahead with the sequels and spin-offs.
Akiva Goldsman, the writer of A Beautiful Mind, Batman & Robin and I Am Legend, is to work to set up a “writer’s room”, reports Deadline. He’ll be doing this in conjunction with Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and the idea is to develop plans for “a multi-part Transformers sequel”, as well as further spin-offs.
Goldsman is unlikely to write any of the new films, rather that he’ll help find screenwriters, and be involved in the development of the new films. Paramount is reportedly aiming to ape the Star Wars model for its new movie universe.
