Furious 7

The long Easter weekend is finally here and if you’re looking for a relaxed trip to the cinemas this weekend, and there’s a lot of choice on offer with some big releases launching this Friday, 3 April, so here’s your handy guide on what you should be watching:

Furious 7

The seventh entry in the Fast & Furious franchise also marks the last. Forget logic and gravity and everything else you learned in physics class, and prepare to just enjoy flying cars, massive fight scenes and some classic one-liners.

As a bonus for this weekend’s big release, Ster-Kinekor and MenStuff are giving away 3 double-tickets to 3 lucky winners.

All you have to do is email competitions@menstuff.co.za with the name of the character the late Paul Walker played in the Fast & Furious franchise.

And if you’re not a lucky winner, don’t panic. There’s also some great things on offer for everyone to enjoy. To test your Fast and Furious driving skills, there will be racing simulators at select cinemas from 03 – 06 April. Challenge your friends and family and see who makes it to the top of the leader board each day. The racing simulators will be in pole position at Ster-Kinekor Gateway in Durban, Tygervalley in Cape Town, Sterland in Pretoria, and at Cradlestone Mall and The Zone in Johannesburg.

However, if watching fast cars racing from ‘Zero to Luxury in under three seconds’ is more your style, you need to book your seats in Cine Prestige from 01 – 06 April. If you find a lucky sticker under your big red leather seat inside the cinema, you take the checkered flag and a prize hamper too! You can find Cine Prestige theatres at Ster-Kinekor Gateway in Durban, Cavendish in Cape Town, The Grove in Pretoria, and Cradlestone, The Zone and Sandton in Johannesburg.

Inherent Vice

Also opening this weekend is Inherent Vice. Based on the novel by Thomas Pynchon, this Paul Thomas Anderson-directed crime drama is set in Los Angeles in 1970, as private investigator Larry “Doc” Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix) receives a visit from an ex-girlfriend who wants him to investigate the disappearance of her lover, real estate mogul Mickey Wolfmann (Eric Roberts). As the case unfolds Doc butts heads with a great many whacky L.A. characters who all seem to be somehow tied to the case.

Cinderella

And of course, for the lads taking their girlfriends, daughters, moms, or for those guys who just want to experience something a little tamer, Cinderella also kicks off this weekend. The Disney reimagining of the classic tale is already getting great praise overseas and stars Cate Blanchett, Hayley Atwell, and Helena Bonham-Carter.
