Suicide Squad: First Pic Revealed, Getting To Know The Team
The misfit group of super-villains has been assembled. Check out the first image here…
Comic book movies have officially taken over the big screen. Long time fans of comic books or cartoons are getting used to the idea of seeing their favorite heroes making their way onto the big screen, and this hasn’t ever been as popular as it is right now. Warner Bros are moving in a slightly different direction with their Suicide Squad movie though, with a few infamous DC villains teaming up in David Ayer’s newest directorial project. With the amount of comic book movies hitting the silver screen it can be difficult to keep up, so we’re going to take a look at the breakdown of the villainous ensemble!
First things first, what is the Suicide Squad? Essentially, the Squad (also referred to as Task Force X) is a collection of baddies that are given almost impossible missions in exchange for an opportunity to decrease their prison sentences. Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) is the no-nonsense coordinator of these missions that often see the Squad return with a few members less than it started with.
David Ayer has been notoriously generous with info about the movie, taking to Twitter quite frequently to post photos or updates of the movie’s progress. Just yesterday he shared a full photo of the entire Squad, all decked out in their outfits.

The Squad has 9 members, starting from the left we’ll take a quick look at who all these members are and the actors and actresses playing the roles:
Adam Beach IS Christopher Weiss, AKA Slipknot: Although he shares a name with the well-known metal band, he isn’t about masks that give kids nightmares or drumming upside down. Nah, he’s more about being an effective assassin that frequently uses ropes to carry out his jobs. Ropes? Is that the best they’ve got you ask? Don’t worry, we’re just warming up.
Jai Courtney IS George Harkness, AKA Captain Boomerang: That name. That name though. Long time fans of the Flash character will know that Harkness is one of Flash’s more iconic villains, known best for his judicious use of a variety of boomerang-like weapons, and in some story arcs he has a limited duration of super-human speed bursts. Ropes and boomerangs? Meh. Luckily, we’re going to be moving into the supernatural shortly.
Cara Delevingne IS June Moone, AKA Enchantress: June Moone doesn’t use knives, ropes or razor-sharp Alice bands as her weapons of choice, no ma’am. Her preferred method of dealing with undesirable individuals is her magical alter ego; Enchantress. Usually just a garden-variety artist, June Moone has access to a sorceress alter ego named Enchantress that has a range of magical abilities that include teleportation and advanced healing to phasing through solid objects. That’s so much cooler than climbing over a wall with a rope…right?
Karen Fukuhara IS Tatsu Yamashiro, AKA Katana: This masked femme fatale is known for her expert martial arts skills and general combat proficiency, having Batman as one of the more noted instructors. Besides just generally being able to beat the living daylights out of people with her hands, she also carries a unique sword around affectionately known as “Soultaker”. What on earth could it do that would warrant that name you ask? Why it takes its victims’ souls of course! These souls can then be reincarnated and made to serve the Soultaker’s wielder. Yeah, it is slightly creepy. But, at least she’ll always have some people to have a conversation with!
Joel Kinnaman IS Rick Flagg: Rick Flagg has historically been the leader of the Suicide Squad. A military man that is put in charge of getting the Squad’s crew of misfits through their missions (occasionally) in one piece, he’s one of the few members that wasn’t a criminal scumbag at one point or another. Flagg is an all-purpose military badass that depends on his leadership skills as much as his physical abilities. Think of him as a less popular, caveless, poorer, not-as-cool-looking version of Batman.
Margot Robbie IS Harleen Quinzel, AKA Harley Quinn: Of all the Squad members this is porbably the character most people will be familiar with. In recent times she’s achieved nearly as much notoriety and affection as her more psychotic other half; the Joker. As a trained psychiatrist she’s known for being a witty and slightly unhinged dame that trades in listening to how things make people feel for attempting lobotomies with baseball bats and obscenely large mallets. Margot Robbie is known for her breakout role in Wolf of Wall Street, and she’s likely to be a good source of laughs – and bloodshed.
Will Smith IS Floyd Lawton, AKA Deadshot: Another DC villain that’s been getting a lot of love lately, courtesy of appearing in a recent Suicide Squad animated movie and the Arkham game series. Played here by the charismatic Will Smith, he’s usually shown to be a decent combatant but is ultimately known for his almost supernatural precision with firearms. Equipped with forearm mounted guns and his trusty sniper rifle he’s a gun for hire, but despite his ruthlessness the character is a fan favorite due to his dry humor and wry charm.
Adewale Akkinuoye-Agbaje IS Waylon Jones, AKA Killer Croc: No deft weapons or magical abilities to be found here, just ridiculous strength and a disdain for ordinary human beings. Killer Croc hasn’t been a frequent inclusion in the Suicide Squad source material, so how his role will play out in the movie is a mystery. Suffice it to say he’s going to bashing and chomping his way through the bystanders, err… I mean story.
Jay Hernandez IS Chato Santana, AKA El Diablo: El Diablo is a widely unknown character but one that actually has a fairly long history. El Diablo is a spirit that inhabits the bodies of a few characters over the years, currently residing in ex-criminal Chato Santana. He’s a more recent addition to the Squad and his abilities aren’t that well known, but it is rumored that he’ll be pyrokinetic.
That’s quite the line-up. The movie’s plot is still fairly under wraps, but they’ve definitely got access to some fantastic characters to tell their story with. Those unfamiliar with the Suicide Squad will hopefully be intrigued by the array of interesting characters, and long time fans are probably waiting in anticipation for the trailer to drop. That may be quite some time away, but in the mean time if you’re interested in getting to know more about the Squad have a look at the animated movie “Assault on Arkham” to get your fix of quirky criminals doing all sorts of insanely ridiculous (and frequently illegal) things!

It’s a super ambitious movie – but I think David Ayer will nail it. So much talent on board.
