Dinosaurs are awesome. It’s a scientific fact. So to celebrate those beloved Jurassic beasts, we went through the big-screen’s prehistoric-inspired adventures to find the six best dinosaur movies in history. So, without further ado…
6. Jurassic World
With a formidable cast and storyline, striking effects, and just enough nostalgia to tickle your arm hairs, Jurassic World is just as fun as you’d hoped it would be, 22 years since the release of Jurassic Park. The film didn’t rewrite special effects like the original, but behind all the hype, Jurassic World is a well-crafted addition to the franchise that is also one of the best dinosaur-themed movies ever made.
5. Dinosaur (2000)
Dinosaur was not only the most expensive film to make of 2000, but it is also arguably one of the most underrated Disney movies to date. The CGI film featured incredible visuals, great voice acting and some pretty intense scenarios for children and adult viewers alike. It also featured a wide variety of dinosaurs and some mature themes, while it was somewhat predictable, it doesn’t take away any of the fun or entertainment value of the movie.
4. King Kong (2005)
OK, King Kong is not necessarily a dinosaur movie per se, but good ole Skull Island features a lot of prehistoric beasts that give a bit of trouble to Mr. Kong. In the original 1933 movie, Kong fights off one T-rex in an epic stop-motion battle, but in the 2005 remake from Peter Jackson, they upped the ante and the famous giant gorilla takes on three tyrannosauruses while juggling Naomi Watts’ character. Also, the great stampede scene featuring a Brachiosauri is also an epic dino bonanza.
3. The Land Before Time (1988)
If you want some serious dinosaur nostalgia, give The Land Before Time another watch. This 1988 classic would have been in every 90s kid’s VHS collection and would likely have also been the introduction of said kid to the prehistoric beasts. While animated, the movie was a rollercoaster of emotions and featured some hilarious, frightening and downright heartbreaking at times.
2. Jurassic Park: The Lost World (1997)
Jurassic Park is a tough film to top, but the 1997 sequel, The Lost World, did a pretty good job at recreating some of the dinosaur-magic the first movie delivered, while also pushing the story and universe of the films along. There were some shortcomings with the film, but the scenes featuring the raptors in the long-grass, as well as the T-rex making its back to San Diego, are some of the memorable highlights of the follow-up.
1. Jurassic Park (1993)
Of course, Jurassic Park is the definitive dinosaur adventure. Steven Spielberg’s incredible 1993 classic featured a great human cast, revolutionary CGI and a fantastic and compelling story unlike anyone had seen before on the big screen. Jurassic Park is often referred to as one of the best movies ever made and it still stands the test of time to this day.

I would like to add one more: We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story. was also a good movie. Land Before time is a pure classic.
