Game releases this week

This week, gamers are in for a pretty dynamic bunch of games, as the controversial Hatred hits PC, while Blizzard’s new MOBA venture also releases. We also get some fresh gameplay ideas with Wander, and portable gamers are also in for a treat with a new PC Vita release

Hatred

1 June (PC)

Hatred, as it’s name suggests, caused an uproar when its first trailer hit the internet. The ultra-violent shooter throws you into the shoes of the villain, who is cold blooded with a hatred for humanity. Taking place in the boonies of New York, you are free to take out anyone you see fit in seven free-roaming levels. You’ll take on the law, gather equipment from your victims, and destroy everything in your way. All the while you’ll learn more about this hateful individual.

Whether or not the controversy around the game is justified is up for debate, but either way, it hasn’t stopped the game from hitting Steam this week.

Wander

4 June (PC, PS4)

Wander is arguably the most interesting game to come out in quite some time. The game drops guns or any form of combat. Instead, it’s a narrative MMO (massively multiplayer online game) where you begin life as a blank slate and tasks the player to interacting with other wanderers and discover more of the world around you.

Wander features a novel communication system that involves discovering glyphs during your journey. Until you know how to make glyphs, you cannot communicate with other adventurers. Using the mouse or PS4 touch pad, you will draw glyphs to speak with others. The game allows you take to discover its narrative through exploration and the 4 different forms you can employ.

Heroes of the Storm

2 June (PC)

Blizzard’s free-to-play entry into the MOBA genre begins in full force this week. After several stages of alpha and betas, Heroes of the Storm is finally heading to release. The game brings together heroes from Blizzard’s popular series: Diablo, StarCraft, and WarCraft into 5-on-5 team battles.

While the game is free with a changing roster of 5-7 heroes, players can purchase any of the 36 heroes permanently via in-game currency or microtransactions. A starter pack is also coming out, which includes a golden tiger mount and five heroes: Sonya, Zeratul, Zagara, Li Li, and Jaina.

D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die

5 June (PC)

D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die Releases June 5 for Windows  If you’re looking for a bizarre game to play, D4 has you covered. You control David Young, a private detective who plots revenge against the people who killed his wife and left him with a bullet in his head. The twist? He can also travel through time. The idea is to point and click your way through this adventure game, collecting clues and eventually confronting the bad guys. It scored well with reviewers when it was released on Xbox One, so it’s worth a look on PC.
