6 Exciting Games Releasing This Week

We give you the lowdown on which games are hitting SA store shelves and digital outlets this week.

Many gamers may not recognise or have heard of some of the games releasing this week. There’s no big triple-A titles, but these are some interesting and unique releases nonetheless, and here’s why they’re worth your attention:

Legend of Kay Anniversary

Release date: 28 July (PC, PS4, Wii U)

3D platformers are few and far between these days, so thankfully the kung-fu feline adventure game Legend of Kay Anniversary is releasing this week to scratch the itch.

10 years after its initial release, Legend of Kay Anniversary is a thoroughly remastered version of the original PS2 game: high-resolution textures; new, more detailed character models; modern rendering techniques and crystal-clear surround sound give this great classic a new shine.

Life is Strange Episode 4

Release date: 28 July (PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360)

The episodic Life is Strange has created quite a following since its first instalment, and the penultimate episode, entitled “Dark Room”. is set for release this week. Things are getting serious in Arcadia Bay, as things ramp up to their conclusion in Max’s investigation of Rachel Amber’s disappearance. After the major cliff hanger in episode 3, you’ll get some more answers in “Dark Room”. The episode will take a darker turn than prior entries, and some of the secrets of Arcadia Bay will come to light.

Lost Dimension

Release date: 28 July (PS3, PS Vita)

Lost Dimension takes a great spin on the classic Japanese RPG genre, throwing some misdirection into the gameplay which makes you question every teammate at every turn.

The game puts you in the shoes of one elite squad member sent to take down a great evil called The End, who has erected a giant tower in the city called The Pillar. Your job is to climb the Pillar with 10 other team mates, each with special abilities. The one issue is someone in the crew is a traitor. So every level of the five levels in The Pillar requires your team to ferret out the traitor and vote on who it is. Those with the most votes get erased from existence.

N++

Release date: July 28 (PS4)

N++ brings the tough as nails action-platforming the series is known for to a whole new level. Taking control of a ninja, players have got to move quickly through levels trying to evade, bombs, hazards, and enemies.

You’ll need to suss out the ninja’s weight, momentum, and inertia interacts within levels because not accurately judging those factors will lead to control crushing deaths. N++ gives players 2,360 minimalistic levels to run through, and a built-in level editor to create your own levels (with global level sharing and leaderboards).

The Swindle

Release date: 28 July (PC, PS4, PS3, PS Vita, Xbox One)

The Swindle is a new steampunk-inspired crime game, putting you into the shoes of a thief attempting to pull off some risky heists which involve infiltrating buildings, grabbing the cash, and trying to escape without getting caught by the police.

All buildings will be randomly-generated in the game making each heist unique. The money you retrieve from your theft will be useable to upgrade your thieves with new skills, tools, and other abilities to tackle tougher jobs.

King’s Quest: A Knight To Remember

Release date: 28 July (PS3, PS4), 29 July (Xbox 360, Xbox One)

King’s Quest: A Knight to Remember, the first episode in a five-part saga, will launch this week. King’s Quest is The Odd Gentlemen’s take on the classic adventure series, following Activision’s revival of the Sierra label. The game follows the youthful adventures of King Graham, now an old man telling stories to his granddaughter. It’s also beautifully animated and will provide something quite different for those looking for a change this week.
