Crowd-funding platforms like Indiegogo and Kickstarter have given aspiring inventors the opportunity to aim high with their ambitious projects, so to see what’s out there, we took at the five most exciting projects in the pipelines.

Coolbox

If you thought there wasn’t much you could do to evolve the trusty toolbox, you’d be wrong. The Coolbox is the toolbox of the 21st century, packed-full of some pretty awesome tech. There’s an integrated battery that powers dual USB ports for charging, a Bluetooth speaker for pumping out some tunes while you’re working and sockets for all your power tools. Not only that, but it also has wheels and durable handles to make transporting it around the house easy, and there’s even a whiteboard for jotting down notes and a magnetic panel for catching screws.

Nike’s self-tying shoes

It’s 2015, so all the future tech that Back to the Future Part II promised us should be landing this year. Hoverboards are still a work in progress, Lexus’ attempt is pretty damn impressive, but while we wait for it to be fully realised, Nike’s self-tightening MAGS are soon to be a reality.
