Rugby Ball Explodes During Game [Video]

A rugby ball that burst during Northland’s 27-18 loss to Southland in Whangarei at the weekend has blown up in a big way.

While there’s usually the odd-100kg man flopping on top of it, or being kicked around continuously for 80 minutes, it’s not often you’ll see a rugby ball actually burst during a game.

Well, that’s exactly what happened this weekend, as Northland flyhalf Dan Hawkins looked to clear the ball from his own half with a massive punt, but the ball was charged down by Southland’s Tim Boys before being scored.

We’re not sure at which moment the ball popped (either the kick or impact with Boys’ hand), but given the massive hole that commentator Ian Jones shows, it’s not surprising that the ball deflated almost instantly.
