12 Most Anticipated Games of September 2015

The long mid-year gaming drought is coming to an end, and with September rolling in, gamers are in for arguably the most explosive month of releases yet. With so many games to mention, we’ve highlighted the most-anticipated titles we can’t wait to play.

Mad Max

Release date: 1 September (Xbox One, PS4, PC)

The original Mad Max movies (and recent reboot, Fury Road) are jam-packed with vehicular carnage and massive explosions, and the game is set to bring that to the table this month. Avalanche Studios have crafted a massive open-world that will allow you to transition from on-foot combat to in-car destruction on-the-fly. Flipping cars, blowing up opponents and punching dudes in the face… what more could you want?

Zombie Vikings

Release date: 1 September (PS4, Steam)

Zombie Vikings is a quirky side-scrolling beat-’em-up that lets you and three other players team-up and stab your way through the funny adventure.

Hack through the boiling gingerbread swamps of Molgaga, take a cruise through the intestines of the Midgaard Serpent, fight giant troll poultry and find out how Söccer was really invented. It’s all there, and Zombie Vikings could the surprise hit of the month.

Rugby World Cup 2015

Release date: 4 September 2015 (Xbox One, PS4, PC, Xbox 360, PS3)

In anticipation for the big occasion kicking off later this month, Big Ben Interactive are releasing their follow-up to Rugby 15, Rugby World Cup 2015, this week. The game is set to feature a new tutorial mode, full accurate player statistics from OPTA, refined gameplay elements like rucks and mauls, more stadiums, and some licensed teams. The game looks a lot like Rugby 15 (which isn’t a good thing, considering the quality of that game), but we’re hoping there’s more beneath the surface with RWC 2015.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Release date: 1 September (Xbox One, PS4, PC, PS3, Xbox 360)

Few titles generate the buzz like that of Metal Gear Solid games, and the latest instalment in the long-running franchise, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is releasing this month. The game, which is has already got some unbelievable reviews, is also the swansong for series creator Hideo Kojima. The Phantom Pain is a testament to the importance of taking risks. An open world, a customizable base, a variable mission structure – these are not traditional aspects of Metal Gear, but they are what makes The Phantom Pain such an exceptional game.

Grow Home

Release date: 1 September (PS4)

In Grow Home you play as B.U.D. (Botanical Utility Droid), a robot on a mission to save his home planet by harvesting the seeds of a giant alien plant. On his quest BUD will discover a beautiful world of floating islands that are home to some rather strange plants and animals. It’s a fun and inventive game that should be a welcomed change of pace to the high-octane action being delivered from other titles.

Tearaway Unfolded

Releasing: 9 September (PS4)

Tearaway originally released on the PS Vita, but now console gamers are getting the chance to play the award-winning game reimagined for PlayStation 4.

The paper-craft inspired game has been rebuilt from the ground up to take advantage of the enhanced power of the PlayStation 4 and the unique features of the DualShock 4 controller, with new fourth-wall-busting interactions and a bigger, more beautiful world to explore.

Destiny: The Taken King

Release date: 15 September (Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4)

Destiny: The Taken King is a new expansion for Destiny that delivers the next great adventure in the sci-fi FPS/RPG universe.

Oryx, The Taken King has arrived in our solar system, bringing with him a corrupted army to exact revenge on the Guardians who destroyed his son, Crota, and to consume our worlds. Arm yourself with newfound abilities, weapons, and gear. Defeat the Taken hordes. Make your way aboard the Dreadnaught, and face Oryx himself within his inner sanctum.

You must find a way into his impenetrable Dreadnaught ship to defeat The Taken King before he and his dark army consume our civilization and bring the solar system to ruin.

Forza Motorsport 6

Release date: 9 September (Xbox One)

The name Forza precedes itself, and with the biggest and most realistic entry into the franchise coming out this month, racing fans know that they’re in for a treat.

It promises the most realistic physics-based weather system, more than 450 remarkably detailed ForzaVista cars, a fully realised damaged model and so much more. 

Players will be able to collect, customise and race the cars of their dreams, including the video game debut of the super-sexy Ford GT.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2016

Release date: 17 September (PS4, PS3, Xbox one, Xbox 360)

PES 2016 may still be the secondary alternative to FIFA in South Africa, but Konami’s football sim is making leaps and bounds each year.

In the new instalment, the 1v1 player control has been enhanced, offering a wide range of movements with the existing controls.

Response times have also been improved allowing players to manoeuvre in tight situations, which also benefits the upgraded feint moves that allow sudden directional change that can cause defenders to lose their balance.

NHL 16

Release date: 18 September (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Built with more input from our fans than ever before, NHL 16 steps onto the ice to deliver ways to compete as a team, new features across the most played single-player modes, gameplay innovation at every position on the ice and an unrivalled game day atmosphere.

FIFA 16

Release date: 24 September (PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, PS Vita)

From all new player movement and likeness, to realistic animations and attributes, the FIFA development team have authentically recreated 12 of the top-ranked teams in the world.

Capturing all new player movement was done with meticulous detail and supported by a motion capture session at EA Canada with four top players from United States Women’s National Team: Sydney Leroux, Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe.

That’s right, women teams are coming to FIFA; it’s about time.

NBA 2K16

29 September (PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC)
