Fans of giant robotic fisticuffs will be over the moon, as Hasbro has announced that extensive planning has taken back to bring fans the “next 10 years” of Transformers films.

Speaking at an event in Cannes recently, Hasbro Studios president Stephen J Davis explained that earlier this year, Paramount and Hasbro brought together a writers’ room of scribes to help map out the future of the Transformers film franchise.

Headed up by Batman & Robin and A Beautiful Mind writer Akiva Goldsman, the room featured the likes of The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, Iron Man‘s Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, Lost‘s Jeff Pinkner and The Incredible Hulk‘s Zak Penn. The idea was that between them all, they’d flesh out and pitch a bunch of films that would carry the Transformers series forward.

Davis declared the exercise an overwhelming success, saying that “as some of you may have read, just an incredible experience. We decided that we wanted to plot out the next 10 years of the Transformers franchise, so we got together in a room over a three-month period of time. Nine of some of the most creative writers I have ever worked with, shepherded by Akiva Goldsman, who many of you may know won an Academy Award for A Beautiful Mind and written a bunch of great movies”.

“They plotted out the next 10 years of Transformers” he revealed. “Similarly, we are doing the same in television and in digital. So stay tuned, Transformers 5 is on its way, and 6 and 7 and 8″.

That’s at least four new Transformers films that Hasbro appears to have confirmed there. One is going to be the follow on to Transformers: Age Of Extinction, which will see Mark Wahlberg return to star, and the strong betting is on Michael Bay directing again. There’s also talk of an animated origins films that’s going to be set on Cybertron.

Beyond that? We await further news. But it sounds like there’s going to be lots of it.

A Beast Wars movie would be boring as hell. It was a cool series and it should be left at that

I’m keen to see how the next ones turn out. The last one was colossal – I don’t know how they could top that
