5 Great Games You Probably Didn’t Play, But Should

We take a look at some of the overlooked games worth tracking down.

While some gamers know and talk about a lot of the following games, the reality is that a lot of people didn’t actually play them. These games scored generally highly across the board, although the sales never corresponded with their positive reception. Even big name games, like that of the Resistance franchise, were sadly overlooked due to disenchanted fans or basically whatever else was hitting store shelves at that point in time.

Here are some of the best games you probably didn’t play.

Split/Second

Originally available on: Xbox 360, PS3, PC | Available on: Xbox Marketplace for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S

The closest way to describe Split/Second would be like driving through a Michael Bay set as it goes up in flames. Like an awesome B-Grade action flick, Split/Second may not provide emotional depth to call home about, but it offers action and intensity that not many other games can touch. Stunning visuals, solid gameplay, and Powerplays are the defining ingredients in Split/Second, and the result is one of the most exhilarating racers you’ll ever play. It’s available through backwards compatibility on Xbox, so there are no excuses to miss this one.

Dark Sector

Available on: Xbox 360, PS3, PC

Interestingly, Dark Sector was the precursor to the beloved multiplayer shooter Warframe, but it’s a completely different beast, being a single-player action-adventure game that was sorely overlooked. After a CIA agent is infected with a virus, a metallic growth slowly engulfs his arm, and a new boomerang-like glaive emerges at his disposal. Players must take on the role of Hayden and master his continual changing form and abilities, to further his mission and delve deeper into the mystery of these mutations. While staying true to the mechanics of games such as Resident Evil 4 and Gears of War, elements such as the glaive add to a new gameplay experience that fans of the genre should definitely check out.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

Available on: Xbox 360, PS3

Enslaved was defiantly released at the wrong time, as an onslaught of games were hitting store shelves around the fourth quarter of 2010, overshadowing one of the best and underplayed games of the era. Ninja Theory’s epic platforming adventure threw players into the role of Monkey as he had to protect a heroine named Trip, for her death would result in his. Enslaved delivered solid gameplay, great visuals, and possibly the best-told story of that year. It’s a shame that it didn’t get more attention.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta

Available on: PSP, PS3, PS4

While originally appearing on Sony’s PSP handheld, God of War: Ghost of Sparta is by no means a “small” experience. The prequel entry ups-the-ante in terms of scale, to the point where you’re in disbelief this is actually a PSP game. Players get a closer look into Kratos’ relationship with his brother Deimos, although there’s still plenty of gargantuan enemies, and heads to rip off, in what must be one of the strongest games of the entire series. You can now play Ghost of Sparta on the God of War Collection Volume 2 for PS3 and PS4, so what’s your excuse now?

Resistance 3

Available on: PS3

Resistance 3 managed to exceed all the expectations put forward by its predecessors by delivering a heart-stopping campaign, complete with a touching story that sums up the sombre mood of the game. This is the best the series has to offer and if you’re slightly interested, pick it up because the fight against the Chimera is one worth joining the resistance for.
