Sports preview 10 April

This weekend brings a host of sporting action to enjoy.

The Masters (Golf)

Thursday (20:45)-Sunday

Top-ranked Rory McIlroy arrives at Augusta National Golf Club on the cusp of nailing down his career Grand Slam. He goes out as the odds-on favorite to win in his seventh Masters appearance, looking to top his best Masters performance from last year

Jordan Spieth comes in firing on all cylinders following two amazing efforts in his home state of Texas, while Bubba Watson shoots for the green jacket hat-trick with fresh memories of knowing what it takes to win at Augusta. Of course, all eyes will also be on Tiger Woods as he makes his return to the game.

Waratahs vs Stormers (Super Rugby)

Saturday, 11:40

The Stormers will be looking for a first tour win against the defending champion Waratahs knowing that the home side has won 12 of their last 13 matches in Sydney, with a victory margin of 18 points per match.

The Cape side hasn’t hit their potential that was shown during their home stretch in the opening round of the competition, but Schalk Burger and the rest of the team will have to make some headway if they’re to stay as contenders in the South African conference.

Lions vs Sharks (Super Rugby)

Saturday, 17:05

The Lions host the Sharks at Emirates Airline Park in the only South African derby of the weekend, which is expected to be a fiercely contested clash.

The home team is well aware that a win could push them into first place in the South African conference, albeit that th Bulls could again overhaul them later in the evening. On the other hand, the Sharks will be desperate to put their recent misfortunes behind them and win away from home.

Chelsea vs QPR (Premier League Football)

Saturday, 14:30

Chelsea will look to extend their lead at the top of the Premiership table with a strong win over QPR, but the local derby will mean a whole lot more to the Rangers as they will do everything to take the scalp of the Blues.

Some added off-field talk is buzzing regarding Chelsea captain John Terry, who will face ex-England team-mate Rio Ferdinand for the first time since being slammed in his book over the 2011 race storm involving Ferdinand’s brother Anton.

Manchester United vs Manchester City (Premier League Football)

Sunday, 17:00

Few games produce as much hype as the Manchester derby, and the stakes couldn’t be much higher when City make the short trip across town to Old Trafford for the 169th meeting between the sides.

Just one point separates the fierce rivals ahead of this blockbuster clash, which could go a long way to deciding where the teams stand at the end of the season.

Lions vs Sharks and Chelsea vs QPR are the games to watch. City United will most likely be a united win but I’m leaning towards a draw. Both United and City have been too inconsistent to say there will be a clear winner.
