Movies of May 2015

The summer movie season in the US is finally taking flight, and although we’re prepping for some cold weather down here in the Republic, we’re in for some hot movies this May.

Mad Max: Fury Road

15 May

Mad Max: Fury Road is directed, produced and co-written by George Miller, and the fourth film of Miller’s Mad Max franchise. The first film of the franchise in 30 years, Fury Road features actor Tom Hardy as Mad Max,  who is also joined by Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. It looks massive, loud, brutal, and we can’t wait to see this one.

Tomorrowland

22 May

Tomorrowland – inspired by the attractions at Walt Disney World, as its name implies – has been largely shrouded in mystery since its announcement. The film stars Britt Robertson as a teen who stumbles across the existence of a fantastical place and must track down a washed-up scientist (George Clooney) to learn the many secrets it holds. So far, footage of the film has been extremely intriguing, promising an adventure filled with equal parts wonder and excitement.

Unfinished Business

8 May

Those looking for a new Vince Vaughn comedy will be glad to know that he has teamed up with James Franco and Sienna Miller for Unfinished Business. A hard-working small business owner (Vaughn) and his two associates travel to Europe to close the most important deal of their lives. But what began as a routine business trip goes off the rails in every imaginable – and unimaginable – way, including unplanned stops at a massive sex fetish event and a global economic summit.

Pitch Perfect 2

15 May

After the runaway success of the first film, the release of Pitch Perfect 2 seemed inevitable. Anna Kendrick and the rest of the gang return with their undeniable onscreen charm for some new infectious musical numbers. The sequel sees the Barden Bellas enter an international singing competition, but they’ll have to raise their game if they’re to compete on the world stage.

Poltergeist

29 May

Reboots of classic horror films are famously hit-and-miss, so fans won’t be blamed to have some skepticism for the remake of the 1982 classic, Poltergeist. Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt star as a married couple whose family home becomes infected by malevolent spirits. Expect some jump scares, creepy scenes, and a new take on the beloved horror gem.
