ARK: Survival Evolved Is The Epic Dinosaur FPS Game We’ve All Been Waiting For
Indie game studio announces massive prehistoric adventure. Watch the epic trailer below…
There’s one thing that’s severely lacking in games these days: dinosaurs.
Well, thankfully independent developer Studio Wildcard has announced an ambitious project called ARK: Survival Evolved, which is a large open-world Jurassic survival FPS.
“Powered by Unreal Engine 4, ARK: Survival Evolved takes on the survival genre with a unique blend of emergent multiplayer cooperation and competition. Players awake naked and starving on the beach of a mysterious island among a herd of other confused humans. On ARK, they must then hunt, harvest, craft, research technology, and build shelters to protect against scorching days, freezing nights, volatile weather systems, dangerous wildlife, and potential enemies.”
As you will see in the announcement trailer, players will be able to tame dinosaurs and ride them into battle against others dinosaurs or rivaling tribes on the island.
The game is currently in development for Xbox One, PS4, PC, Mac and Linux (with an early 2016 release date), and Steam users will be able to try out ARK: Survival Evolved on Early Access starting 2 June 2015.

This looks pretty intense. Didn’t that game Turok have dinosaurs in it?

Or wasn’t there some sort of Lost World fps? I vaguely remember something along those lines.

I remember a Lost World strategy game but not a first person shooter

A friend of mine had the strategy game. It was pretty fun but very basic. It used the same engine as the Small Soldiers’ strategy game.

There was a Jurassic Park FPS game called Trespasser, which became quite cult classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6A3SaRr26M

I thought so. I think I remember it from one of those PC format demo discs.

Yup, exactly, I think it may have been a NAG demo disc though. I don’t remember seeing that game in the shops.

They should make a remake!

“Players awake naked and starving on the beach of a mysterious island Among a heard of other confused humans” – sounds like pretty much every story I’ve heard my mates tell about Thailand

Sadly true.

The gameplay looks a bit shaken, the renderer doesn’t look too great – a person suddenly appears out of no where in the first scene. I don’t know if the animals are confused or if they programmed really bad AI – the triceratops was walking aimlessly into a rock. Looks quite average.

I agree – it does look quite buggy with some awkward animations, but there’s still a lot of development to go. I think this trailer is to generate some hype and backing for the game. I’m sure it’ll be polished up by the time it drops in early 2016.

Hopefully so. The premise of the game is a lot of fun but it needs a lot of work.

This has a Dragon, you can ride a raptor. So yeah, I am excited about this. Going to be some awesome fun. The trailer might have some issues, but hell, I will still play this.

I think it will be fun but I have a feeling the market is going to be flooded with games involving dinosaurs.
