With Microsoft essentially dropping the mic at E3 after announcing that the Xbox One will be getting its much-demanded backwards compatibility capability, fans on the other side of the fence have been wondering if the Playstation 4 could get the same treatment soon.

“PS3 is such a unique architecture, and some games made use of SPUs very well,” Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida replied when quizzed by Eurogamer about the possibility of backwards compatibility on PS4.

“It’s going to be super challenging to do so. I never say never, but we have no plans.”

Yoshida isn’t just saying that too, as it is apparently an incredibly complex thing to try and achieve. The Sony big-wig was even surprised that Microsoft managed to pull it off when they showcased the Xbox One running Mass Effect.

“I didn’t think it was possible. There must be lots of engineering effort. They talked about 100 games, but what kind of games will be included? Is it smaller games or big games? We don’t know.”
