5 Funniest Animated Movies Ever Made
We count down the best animated comedy movies ever made, so here’s the definitive list to end the debate…
Every movie season we’re being treated to some incredible animated films, with some being the most hilarious releases all year; so we’ve rounded up the funniest animated films you need to watch:
Penguins of Madagascar (2014)
Penguins of Madagascar is not one of the funniest animated movies, but one of the funniest movies ever. Period. The pacing is so zany, the jokes are so rapid-fire and the sight gags are so inspired that it’s impossible not to get caught up in the infectious energy of it all. Penguins ended up being way more than a Madagascar spin-off, showcasing that the militaristic yet lovable birds have a bright future ahead of them.
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013)
If you’re one who loves puns, Cloud With a Chance of Meatballs 2 is your jam. It’s a tasty buffet of food gags, both visual and verbal, but its not a retread of the original, and instead a charming change of scenery and story for the characters. It’s like a foodie Jurassic Park, with a lot more laughs and a lot less cries for help.
Despicable Me 2 (2013)
Whether it’s the brilliant accent and devilish likeability of Gru or the infatuation with the yellow pill-shaped minions, Despicable Me turned out to be a smash hit when it released, and the sequel upped the ante in every department. The story was more concentrated and focused though, which did wonders to develop the lovable characters and show us a different side of them. It’s full of great jokes, ridiculous situations and a light-heartedness that ties in with its squishy and enjoyable animation.
The Lego Movie (2014)
The Lego Movie was one of the most surprising movies of 2014, bringing a hilarious script, incredible animated visuals and a great cast, which included the likes of Will Ferrell, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, and Charlie Day. The witty dialogue and catchy music also delivered a self-aware sensibility to the film, that brilliantly drove home the message of creativity and nostalgia. It was a knee-slapper of note and we can’t wait for the sequel.
Fantastic Mr Fox (2009)
Perhaps the funniest stop-motion animated film of all time, Fantastic Mr. Fox follows several woodland creatures (including George Clooney’s titular animal) as they band together to fight a trio of aggressive farmers. Director Wes Anderson, in adapting Roald Dahl’s beloved novel, transplants his notoriously off-kilter sensibilities to the animated realm with consistently smashing results, as the movie boasts a free-wheeling and frequently hilarious atmosphere that’s heightened by the efforts of an impressive voice cast (which includes Jason Schwartzman, Meryl Streep, and Bill Murray).
