The weekend is here and there are some epic encounters to keep you eye on, including some massive international rugby clashes, more intense Premier League meet-ups, some Currie Cup battles, and the excitement in the ITM Cup.

Pumas vs Golden Lions (Currie Cup rugby)

Friday, 19:10

Golden Lions head coach, Johan Ackermann, has made several changes to his team for the Steval Pumas clash. There is however major concern regarding the fitness of their captain, Jaco Kriel, who sustained a quadriceps injury in the captain’s run on Thursday morning. The Pumas have been playing enterprising rugby themselves, and with the current ambitious of the Johannesburg team too, this should be an exciting match full of running rugby.

Wellington vs Northland (ITM Cup rugby)

Saturday, 09:35

All Blacks loose forward Victor Vito returns to the Wellington Lions pack for Saturday’s national provincial clash with Northland at Westpac Stadium. Vito, a blindside flanker with the national side, will play at No 8 for Wellington, as part of a brilliant loose trio with Ardie Savea and captain Brad Shields. Vaea Fifita moves to lock, to accommodate Vito’s return. Northland played a strong game against Southland last week and should be sticking to the enterprising rugby brand utilising their young squad.

Griquas vs Blue Bulls (Currie Cup rugby)

Saturday, 15:00

Currie Cup log leaders, the Blue Bulls, travel to Kimberley this weekend where they face a potentially difficult away fixture against the Griquas side. Griquas are still searching for their first win, but the Blue Bulls travel to the Diamond City with the full knowledge that a visit to Kimberley is always a testing, bruising affair for any visiting team. The Bulls’ impressive second-half resurgence against Western Province last week will give the Pretoria side some fuel going into this week’s encounter.

Ireland vs Wales (International friendly rugby)

Saturday, 15:30

With the World Cup less than a month away, both of these sides will be going through the final phases of their preparation before making the short trip to England to get proceedings under way. Wales have a considerably tougher pool than Ireland for the World Cup and they will face England, Australia, Fiji and Uruguay whereas Joe Schmidt’s side have been drawn against France, Italy, Canada and Romania. With this being the penultimate game of the warm ups, it will be important that both sides put in a good shift here, especially Wales who were embarrassed the last time he pair met.

Tottenham vs Everton (English Premier League)

Saturday, 18:30

Spurs were victorious in the most recent meeting between the two sides thanks to Kane, who scored the winner in a 1-0 victory on the final day of last season at Goodison Park. The result completed a league double for Pochettino’s side following their 2-1 triumph in the reverse fixture last November. Three successive wins against the Toffees mean that Spurs head into the game unbeaten in the last five meetings, and Everton are searching for their first win over the North Londoners since Nikica Jelavic netted a stoppage-time winner in a 2-1 win in December 2012.

the spurs vs everton game is going to be a cracker. both teams need a win and with the form lukaku is in i can only see this going one way. i think everton have this one. it will be interesting to see what happens with john stones. chelsea have just put in a 40 million pound bid for the defender that will really test everton’s resolve.

I disagree. If you look at the Chelsea’s back four (Iva, Cahill, Terry and Azpi) two of them have been there since mourinho’s first stint at chelsea. Cahill who’s been there for a while and has become a quality defender (and most likely will become captain once terry leaves) replaced Alex who also was there for quite some time. Azpi replaced Cole who was at chelsea for about 10 years or so. So i think if he wants to go to a club to build a career, i think Chelsea is the place.
