2016 has already been a massive year for movies, with the likes of Deadpool, Batman v Superman, and Captain America: Civil War already setting the big-screen alight, but things are just getting started. May is here and with it comes some massive film releases; so we’ve counted down the top 10 that we can’t wait to get our eyes on:

Bad Neighbours 2

Release date: Friday, 6 May

The unlikely duo of Seth Rogan and Zac Efron reunite for a sequel to their 2014 comedy, Bad Neighbours. Having won a hard-fought battle against the frat house next door, Mac (Rogan) and Kelly Radner (Rose Byrne) are ready to live happily ever after. However, just as they’re about to kick their feet up and sigh “home sweet home”, a raucous sorority moves in next door threatening the peace and forcing them to seek the help of their former nemesis, Teddy (Efron).

Regression

Release date: Friday, 6 May

Ethan Hawke and Emma Watson star in this unsettling thriller with some twists and turns in it. The film follows detective Bruce Kenner (Hawke) who unearths a shocking conspiracy after investigating the case of John Gray, a father who confesses to having sexually abused his 17-year-old daughter, Angela (Watson). Having no memory of having been abused, she undergoes an experimental technique to remember, tearing the father and daughter apart and unlocking dark and disturbing truths.

The Angry Birds Movie

Release date: Friday, 13 May

After taking over the mobile gaming world, the Angry Birds are being catapulted onto the big-screen this month. Jason Sudeikis, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, and Bill Hader lend their voices to the movie, which sees an island of flightless birds who are forced to question the motives of a race of green piggies after they learn of their imminent arrival. Red, Chuck and Bomb, three unlikely outcasts, take it upon themselves to investigate the evil plans of Leonard, the King Pig, and his cronies… unlocking the reason they’re called ‘The Angry Birds’.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

Release date: Friday, 13 May

Tina Fey leads this offbeat comedy about a war correspondent who is sent to Afghanistan and Pakistan during ‘Operation Enduring Freedom’. The movie takes a tongue-in-cheek look at her experiences in covering the absurdities and tragedies of the “forgotten war”, as well as her tumultuous relationship she developed with fellow Scottish journalist, Ian McKelpie.

X-Men: Apocalypse

Release date: Friday, 20 May

Hyped-up as the biggest X-Men movie to date, X-Men: Apocalypse introduces the titular mutant who emerges after thousands of years to recruit followers in an attempt to purge the Earth and establish a new world order. Now mankind’s only hope of survival is Raven, Professor X and the team of young X-Men tasked with defeating the immortal and invincible nemesis before he reigns supreme. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult are all returning, along with Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ Oscar Isaac joining the franchise to play Apocalypse.

The Man who knew Infinity

Release date: Friday, 20 May

The true story of Srinivasa Ramanuan Iyengar, a self-taught mathematics genius, who after growing up poor in Madras, India traveled to Cambridge University, where he was admitted during World War I. It was there that he studied under his mentor, the eccentric professor G.H. Hardy, and became a pioneer in mathematical theories against all odds.

Before I Wake

Release date: Friday, 20 May

Before I Wake is a horror film which centres around an 8-year-old boy named Cody, whose dreams manifest in reality as he sleeps. After he is adopted, new parents Jessie (Kate Bosworth) and Mark (Thomas Jane) first discover the incredible wonder of Cody’s imagination, but soon begin seeing the horrific nature of his night terrors.

Alice through the looking Glass

Release date: Friday, 27 May

Alice returns to Wonderland in this sequel to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland film to find she’s the only one who can save the Mad Hatter and prevent the whimsical kingdom from being transformed into a barren wasteland. Turning to Time himself, she realises that the only way to rescue her friend and restore order to Wonderland is to travel back in time to retrieve a magical sceptre. Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska, and Helena Bonham Carter all return, along with some new faces.

The Boss

Release date: Friday, 27 May

Melissa McCarthy is back with another comedy this month, as she takes on the leading role in The Boss, which follows Michelle Darnell, a business tycoon, who is jailed after she’s convicted of insider trading. After her release, she emerges eager to put her criminal history behind her in order to rebrand herself as America’s sweetheart. Forced to move in with one of her former employees (Kristen Bell), she quickly realises many aren’t quite ready to forgive-and-forget.

Bastille Day

Release date: Friday, 27 May

Timely as today’s major concerns on battling terrorism comes the riveting action film Bastille Day based on true events starring Idris Elba and Richard Madden out to stop a series of bomb attacks in Paris. In Bastille Day, Michael Mason (Richard Madden from Game of Thrones) is an American pickpocket living in Paris who finds himself hunted by the CIA when he steals a bag that contains more than just a wallet. Sean Briar (Elba), the field agent on the case, soon realises that Michael is just a pawn in a much bigger game and is also his best asset to uncover a large-scale conspiracy.
