New 2D Sonic The Hedgehog Game Announced
A Sonic The Hedgehog bombshell drops.
While everyone was picking their jaws up off the floor from the spectacular movie trailers revealed at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, another notable announcement slipped under the radars, and it’s one that shouldn’t have.
Sega announced two new Sonic games – Project Sonic 2017 (a working title, obviously) which will be a new 3D Sonic title, and Sonic Mania – a 2D throwback to the golden era of everyone’s anthropomorphic hedgehog.
Sonic Mania will try to tap into what made the original set of Sonic games so beloved back in the 16-bit era, and features classic-style visuals, gameplay, and both original levels and remixes of classic levels. It pretty much sounds like the Sonic game fans have been begging for for decades, and, at least based on the trailer, it looks like it might finally deliver.
Sonic Mania is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in early 2017,
