Women Crush Wednesday: Roxane Hayward
SA actress Roxane Hayward reveals her childhood dream, celebrity crush & a whole lot more!
Roxane Hayward is a South African-born actress, singer and dancer, who has graced the international stage with her talents, but the 25-year-old from Joburg has a lot more behind her undeniable beauty, including a penchant for Muay Thai and the NBA. We caught up with Roxane as our Women Crush Wednesday!
Describe yourself in 5 words:
One. Two. Three. Four. AWESOME!
Relationship status?
The status is fantabulous (and so is he).
What’s your idea of the perfect date?
Anything that involves a surprise and good food… GREAT food!
Who is your celebrity crush and why?
Does it count if he’s no longer alive? Haha. I haven’t found a modern day celebrity who quite compares to the old Hollywood charm that Gergory Peck had swagger!
What do you look for in a man?
There’s nothing more attractive than a man who is driven by passion rather than money. Keeping things light, positive and fun is a must. And if he can throw in a good joke every now and then, then we’ve found a winner! Oh, and he must think I’m the best thing ever.
When you were little you wanted to be?
An actress, of course! I went through a phase where I was convinced I would be the first female to play in a men’s NBA team (because that’s how good I was).
Your biggest relationship deal breaker (or turn off) is?
If he’s married.
What do you like to do for fun or to relax?
Relax? What’s that? When I get a moment of silence, it’s usually spent passing out to catch up on some sleep. Fun, on the other hand… let’s go to the movies!
Best surprise gift you ever received from your partner or a loved one?
A few years ago I wrote a recipe eBook called ‘The First Date’. One day I arrived home to find a home-cooked meal taken from one of the recipes, executed with precision. It was so delicious! And I was so impressed (and it was made by a guy who normally doesn’t even know how to crush a garlic clove).
If you could instantly download a special skill or super power app, what would it be?
Oooo! Have you seen Dr. Strange? THAT! The name kind of suits me too.
Right now, what are you completely obsessed with?
Muaythai. It’s turned me into a mean, lean fighting machine (I like to think) and made walking the streets of South Africa a lot less daunting.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I guess it would be surprising to hear that I matriculated at the age of 16. The plan was to break free as soon as I could – it worked!
What are you most looking forward to this year?
I can’t wait to get back to LA! That city is electric.
What can’t you live without?
A good script and an exciting character to play. I’m in my element and at my happiest when I’m on set!
Who is your favourite celeb #couplegoals duo?
Brangelina – oh no, wait. Tom and Jerry.
Fast facts:
Favourite chocolate?
The darker the better.
Favourite TV show?
Currently addicted to Narcos (the show, not the stuff)
Favourite Movie?
‘What Dreams May Come’ – utterly beautiful.
Favourite Travel Accessory?
My ‘Exotic Kashmir’ beautifully handwoven scarf that doubles as a blanket on the plane. Sorted!
Favourite Clothing Brand?
‘My Wild Heart’. Proudly South Africa. Proudly fabulous!
Favourite childhood memory?
Choreographing dance shows with my little cousins at family functions.
Favourite go to hangout?
‘Shio’ in De Waterkant. The best!
Favourite local sportsman?
Roland Schoman. Because he likes my photos on Instagram sometimes.
Are you a Wine, champagne or a cocktail kinda girl?
None really. They all put me straight to sleep. But I love a day spent out at our beautiful Cape Winelands going wine-tasting. So wine! My answer is wine! (sorry, that last one wasn’t a very ‘fast’ answer).
