‘Starship Troopers’ Sequel is the Movie We’ve Waited 20 Years to See
Twenty years later, it’s time to hunt some more bugs.
It’s been two decades since we got to see Casper Van Dien and Co. shooting up giant bugs in the 1997 cult-classic, Starship Troopers (which still holds up incredibly well today), but you’ll be glad to know that there’s an official sequel on the way.
Subtitled Traitor of Mars, the upcoming sequel is a little different to the first first – specifically, it’ll be a full CGI feature, as well as arriving straight on digital, Blu-ray and DVD. That said, this is very much a return to the ingredients that made the first such a hit. Both Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer reprise their roles — Federation troopers Johnny Rico and Dizzy Flores, respectively — with Ed Neumeier, whose previous credits include the original Starship Troopers, handing the script.
There were two previous straight-to-DVD sequels, Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation and Starship Troopers 3: Marauder, but the less said about those, the better. With two of the original cast returning, we’d like to think of Traitor of Mars as the official sequel.

Last year, it was also reported that Sony is developing a Starship Troopers reboot that will draw from Robert A. Heinlein’s 1959 sci-fi novel, but won’t be a remake of the 1997 original.
