Weekend Sports preview 8 September

This weekend sees some titanic clashes between the world’s biggest teams, clubs, and franchises; and we’ve got a handy guide to the most-anticipated matches you can’t afford to miss:

Wallabies v Springboks (Rugby Championship)

Saturday, 12:00

A vastly improved Springbok side travels to Perth amidst a storm of trouble in the Australian rugby landscape, after the Western Force’s appeal to remain in Super Rugby was denied. Despite the distractions, there’s no denying that the Wallabies have some firepower in their backline that could cause some trouble for the Boks, but South Africa are looking in good form to notch up another win in 2017.

Prediction: Springboks by 5. Place your bets on the Wallabies v Springboks match here.

Manchester City v Liverpool (Premier League football)

Saturday, 13:30

Liverpool will be high on confidence after they sent Wenger back to school in their 4-0 victory over Arsenal last week, so they’re probably going to walk into this match feeling dominant. On the other side of things, City narrowly scraped a win, so they won’t be overly confident, but they’ve got all the tools in their squad to get the three points.

Prediction: 2-3 to Liverpool. Place your bets on the Manchester City v Liverpool match here.

Western Province v Free State Cheetahs (Currie Cup rugby)

Saturday, 15:00

After a stern 45-15 beating at the hands of the Sharks last week, a depleted Cheetahs side (due to the senior players competing in the Pro 14) will likely be at the receiving-end of another loss this week. A Western Province side, fresh from a bye and playing at home, will be looking to capitalise on the opportunity of playing a weakened side with a game in-hand.

Prediction: Western Province by 15. Place your bets on the Western Province v Free State Cheetahs match here.

Everton v Tottenham (Premier League football)

Saturday, 16:00

In a rather interesting encounter following the international break, two teams who haven’t hit their strides just yet come head-to-head when Tottenham travel to take on Everton. Spurs should come back tougher than their rather lacklustre performances before the break, as they’ll be eager to get their season back on track following poor results.

Prediction: 1-2 to Tottenham. Place your bets on the Everton v Tottenham match here.

Munster v Cheetahs (Pro 14 rugby)

Saturday, 18:15

The Cheetahs’ Pro 14 campaign got off to an unfortunate start when they went down 42-19 to an experienced Ulster side. That said, the Bloemfontein side had its moments on attack and can definitely keep up to the pace if their defence holds steady. They face another tough task, however, taking on another Irish heavyweight in Munster, who topped the table last season before falling short to Scarlets.

Prediction: Munster by 10. Place your bets on the Munster v Cheetahs match here.
