Those with over three decades of patience will be duly rewarded this Friday when Blade Runner 2049 hits cinemas across South Africa.

There have already been some extremely-positive whispers about the long-awaited sequel to the cult-classic, which explored the concept of replicants – cyborgs that have developed an uncanny similarity to actual human beings; and to prep you for what’s in store, we thought we’d give a bit of a rundown about what to expect from Blade Runner 2049 (it is one of our most anticipated films of October, after all).

Cool, so what’s it about?

Set thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

A huge part of Blade Runner is the intrigue and mystery around the story — so for clarity sake, it’s difficult to discuss any more than what we already know about the film.

Who’s directing it?

Oscar-nominated director Denis Villeneuve, who helmed the highly-acclaimed Arrival and Prisoners, takes over the directing duties from Ridley Scott, who was behind the first Blade Runner film.

When is it releasing?

Blade Runner 2049 hits cinemas this Friday, 6th October.

I’m in! Let me see the trailer!
