Top 5 Most Anticipated Movies of November 2017
Which movies should you keep on your radar this month?
The month of November is here, and as we head into the holiday season, the movie releases heat up with some big superhero blockbusters and family-themed comedies. We’ve counted down the five movies we can’t wait to see this month.
Mother!
Release date: 10 November
Darren Aronofsky is a celebrated director that has churned out highly acclaimed movies with surprising regularity. His first real hit was way back with Requiem for a Dream, followed by The Fountain in 2006, Black Swan in 2010. The plot of Mother! the movie is rather bizarre and features a couple (played by Javier Bardem and Jennifer Lawrence) who move into an old house and a series of strange events unfold as visitors infringe on their space. Throughout many of his projects, he’s used biblical themes and Mother! is his most thematically daring project ever, with screenings at certain film festivals drawing a lot of displeasure due to the visual and narrative boundaries that Aronofsky doesn’t just cross, but absolutely thrashes to pieces. It’s a strangely abstract and cerebral thriller with some grotesque elements and should definitely only be considered by those with open minds and strong stomachs.

Justice League
Release date: 17 November
The direct sequel to Batman v Superman and the first time the Justice League will assemble is hitting screens this month and many DC fans will be lining up for this one. Batman v Superman had some serious criticisms and failed to really resonate with audiences, so a lot is riding on the quality of this film to keep people invested in the DC film universe. Its events lead on directly from the cliff-hanger ending of Batman v Superman, with an impending threat to earth creating the dire need for the team of heroes to come together. The trailers up until now have done a good job of revealing enough to gain interest but not completely spoiling key elements – a serious criticism of Batman v Superman’s marketing campaign. After scoring a home run with Wonder Woman, Warner Brothers will be hoping Justice League can keep the DC universe’s fortunes looking up.
Daddy’s Home 2
Release date: 24 November
The first movie pitted two dads against each other, played by comedic all stars Mark Wahlberg (Dusty Mayron) and Will Ferrell (Brad Whitaker). The sequel adds a double dose of fatherly comedy by adding cinematic greats Mel Gibson and John Lithgow to the equation – as Wahlberg and Ferrell’s dads respectively. The comedy plays out over Christmas time, which has historically been a great setting for humorous escapades to unfold in. Ferrell and Wahlberg both have unique but synergistic comedic timing and they share good chemistry stretching back to their initial team up from The Other Guys. Anyone that enjoys the projects Wahlberg and Ferrell usually put out should definitely keep an eye out for this Christmas caper.
Murder on the Orient Express
Release date: 24 November
For those who are fans of slightly off-centre this might just tickle your fancy. Murder on the Orient Express is originally a famed Agatha Christie novel that has been adapted several times, and this is the most recent play on a classic whodunit tale. A murder occurs on the train named the Orient Express and it’s up to detective Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) to solve the mystery of the murder before the train arrives and the suspects all go their separate ways. The main attraction isn’t just the classic source material, but also the ensemble cast that promises an overwhelming amount of talent. Besides Branagh’s starring role, the movie also features Penelope Cruz, Johnny Depp, Judi Dench, Willem Dafoe, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Daisy Ridley – meaning this is likely to be an outstandingly entertaining film.
Rebel in the Rye
Release date: 24 November
At some point, almost all of us will read, or have already read, the literary classic Catcher in the Rye. Its author, J.D Salinger, is a celebrated writer due to the immense impact and legacy that this book has established. This movie starring Nicholas Holt and Kevin Spacey follows the tumultuous and highly dramatic events throughout the young Salinger’s life that eventually culminate in him producing one of the most revered novels of the modern era – which resulted in his immediate fame. Fans of period pieces will likely find this an appealing film, as will those who have an affinity for literary classics and who enjoy a keen exploration of the lives of the authors who have created some of our favourite books.
