5 Games Under R300 You Need to Play

It’s 2018 – and R300 isn’t what it used to be. Getting a great gaming experience for the weekend can hurt one’s wallet, but we’ve highlighted 5 games that won’t break the bank and are worth checking out if you’re yet to play them.

Dishonored 2 (PS4) – R236

Dishonored II is a fantastic stealth-action game that many overlooked purely due to the time it came out. The sequel to 2012’s original allows players to choose between playing as the first game’s protagonist Corvo or his daughter Emily in this slick-looking follow-up which takes place in the coastal city of Karnaca rather than the grimy streets of Dunwall. Players can also use a variety of new supernatural powers to hunt down their targets, but it’s also said that the game can be finished without taking a life.

Alien Isolation (PS4) – R100

Alien: Isolation does a really good job to recreate the tension and horror aspects of the Alien franchise, which is something that has often been sidelined in exchange for action in other games based on the franchise. The interesting premise, incredible visuals and unique AI features make the game a must-play for horror fans looking for something different.

Quantum Break (Xbox One) – R289

Quantum Break is an interesting and shamefully under-appreciated title that deserves some love from Xbox One gamers. The game, which is also part TV show, puts the old time-travel hypothesis to the test: can you change the past? Being developed by the guys who brought us Max Payne, Quantum Break makes time not only a tool, but a weapon for the in-over-his-head protagonist Jack Joyce, and the result is something quite unique and spectacular. It’s not the longest game in the world, but a great addition to any third-person shooter fan looking for something with a unique hook.

Murdered: Soul Suspect (Xbox One) – R223

The idea of solving your own murder is an interesting premise, and this is exactly what Murdered: Soul Suspect asks you to do. Players take control of recently-deceased detective Ronan O’Connor as he has to track down his killer and uncover the motivation of his untimely death. Left in a kind of ghostly limbo, players are able to wander through walls and furniture or temporarily possess the living, read their minds and sometimes influence (though not control) their behaviour. It’s an interesting game that has some unique gameplay ideas for those looking for something different.

The Evil Within (PS4) – R278

Arguably one of the scariest games ever made, The Evil Within is a horror-gem that’s definitely worth a play, also considering that the sequel released in late 2017 and is very-much worth a play too. Coming from the mind of Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, the follows veteran police detective Sebastian Castellanos as he investigates the scene of a gruesome mass murder. Of course, things aren’t as they seem, and he soon finds himself in a deranged world where hideous creatures wander among the dead. The game plays out as a familiar third-person shooter in which scavenging for supplies and learning when to fight or run are key factors in surviving, much like Resident Evil, but for a new generation.
