The PC master-race meme is well-worn and kind of old now, but many gamers that have played on both console and PC will attest to the fact that the mouse-and-keyboard option definitely has its merits.

Microsoft has heeded the call from gamers to incorporate mouse and keyboard (m&k) support for their console, and as of the November 2018 update, m&k will be useable on the console. However, there is a slight caveat: the support will be for selected games – so it’s not blanket update that allows mapping of controller button inputs straight onto m&k buttons per se.

The initial big games that will be supported are the highly popular Fortnite and Warframe, with the following also added to the list later this month:

  • Bomber Crew
  • Deep Rock Galactic
  • Strange Brigade
  • Vermintide 2
  • X-Morph Defense

Support is also expected for the following games, although the timeframe hasn’t been confirmed yet:

  • Children of Morta
  • DayZ
  • Minion Master
  • Moonlighter
  • Vigor
  • Warface
  • Wargroove

Although some of the bigger, and more expected FPS titles haven’t been confirmed to get support as of yet, the fact that mouse and keyboard use is now possible for Xbox One titles means that the number of games it’ll be usable on is only like to keep increasing – which is a good thing. Certain genres, like shooters, function intrinsically better with the use of a mouse and will help console players enjoy a better experience.

Microsoft is teaming up with Razer, too, to design some peripherals especially for the Xbox One. The mice and keyboard devices will be shown off at CES 2019 in January, so anyone keen to hook up a mouse and keyboard to their Xbox One with some quality hardware won’t have long to wait.
