A Massive Kite Festival is Coming to Cape Town

Let’s go fly a kite! Spring is almost upon us and it’s time once again for Africa’s biggest kite festival. Taking place in Muizenberg at Zandvlei Nature Reserve on 26th and 27th October 2019, The Cape Town International Kite Festival promises to be a high flying extravaganza. The festival will see kite flying professionals from around the world gather alongside eager amateur enthusiasts flying incredible creations in support of Cape Mental Health.

Promising incredible kiting displays to delight young and old, The Cape Town International Kite Festival promises unbelievable kiting sights. From giant inflatables, stunt kites, and even kite fighting in the main arena, this is a not-to-be-missed event on Cape Town’s social calendar. Taking place from 10:00 to 18:00 on Saturday and Sunday, the festival offers a day of fun in the sun for the whole family.

What to expect

In addition to professional kiting displays, festival-goers are also invited to unleash their own creativity by making a kite to bring along to the festival to fly in the public flying arena. Those who don’t own a kite can also buy a kite at the festival, or even make one at one of the free kite-making workshops. While you’re there, don’t forget to enter the kite-flying competitions for a chance to win exciting prizes.

In addition to must-see kiting entertainment, there will also be loads of other exciting activities to keep festival-goers happy throughout the day. Live entertainment in the form of dancing, music, and comedy will keep everyone having a blast all afternoon. For the little ones, there will be a free supervised Toddler Zone, and fairground rides, giving parents the opportunity to relax and unwind.

A tea garden and food trucks will keep hunger pangs at bay but guests are also welcome to bring along their own picnics to enjoy on the lawn as they watch the kites fly by.

Tickets for The Cape Town International Kite Festival are R40 per adult, R15 per child and are available at the gate or online from Quicket. All profits go towards helping Cape Mental Health provide vital services to adults and children in resource-poor communities.
