5 Hottest Game Releases of December 2021

From space-fighters to robot mascots, the games of December definitely deliver some variety. We’ve rounded up the most exciting and interesting releases arriving on consoles and PCs in December 2021:

Chorus

Release date: 3 December 2021 (Xbox Series X|S | PS5 | PS4 | Xbox One | PC)

Chorus is a space-combat game where you engage in intergalactic dogfights through asteroid belts, space stations, and ancient ruins. The action is fast and acrobatic, but what makes Chorus different is that there’s a strong story element to it, following the pilot Nara and her evolving dynamic with the sentient starcraft known as Forsaken, making the ship a character itself. You can upgrade Forsaken with some serious firepower, but you’ll also need to solve ancient puzzles in order to unlock secrets to help you defeat a cult looking to dominate the universe.

Halo Infinite

Release date: 8 December 2021 (Xbox Series X|S | Xbox One | PC)

Halo Infinite had a bit of a bumpy road to where it is now. After less-than-captivating reveal, the game has received a visual overhaul and some polishing, and December finally sees the game arrive on the Xbox and PC platforms. As the sixth main entry in the Halo series, it continues the story of the Master Chief, following Halo 5: Guardians, and shifts to a more semi-open world design, where players can freely explore parts of the world and unlock new areas and take on enemy bases to progress further. Unlike previous instalments in the series, the multiplayer portion of the game is free-to-play.

The Gunk

Release date: 16 December 2021 (Xbox Series X|S | Xbox One | PC)

The Gunk is an interesting-looking platform adventure game that sees players take control of a scavenger named Rani, who arrives on a mysterious alien planet corrupted by black goo-looking parasite. Using Rani’s suction glove, players can dispatch the goo and allow wildlife to thrive on the planet once again. Of course, there are some enemies to deal with too. It looks like a fantastic idea and the physics mechanics around the goo-clearing makes for a seriously satisfying experience.

Alfred Hitchcock — Vertigo

Release date: 16 December 2021 (PC) ‘

Fans of Alfred Hitchcock’s work will have to keep an eye on this one. Vertigo is a third-person story-driven adventure game that is loosely based on the films of Alfred Hitchcock, particularly Vertigo. The story will follow a man named Ed Miller, who enters therapy to cope with the mysterious after-effects of a car crash. Throughout the game, you’ll play as a few different characters as you play through scenarios to rebuild the memories of the characters involved. It looks a little slower-paced, but that’s a good thing, as there aren’t enough narrative-focused experiences on the market currently; and the Hitchcockian horror element is always an alluring setting.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach

Release date: 16 December 2021 (PS5 | PS4 | PC)

The sensation that is Five Nights at Freddy’s is getting a serious evolution with Security Breach. Unlike the previous games where you’d simply monitor security cameras for suspicious movement in a static environment, Security Breach goes full first-person horror. You’ll have to slink around a shopping mall at night, all the while trying to avoid mechanised monstrosities and other enemies that are trying to hunt you down. There are also combat elements, so be prepared to fight some of the unsavoury mascots that you fail to escape from.
