Adidas has launched a brand new colourway of the Copa Icon, paying homage to the original Copa Mundial boot which has become so beloved by players worldwide.

The new Copa Icon obviously borrows a lot from its inspiration, but adds a lot of modern twists to make it a boot that appeals to old-school fans, along with new-age players.

This iteration of the boot features a K-leather construction much like the legendary version first released in the 1970s, however, this new version doesn’t include the fold-over tongue – something that might upset purists.

While it may lack the fan-favourite tongue, the boot has been improved in certain areas, notably a synthetic collar lining to add comfort around the ankle, a shaped tongue which runs throughout the boot, and a more lightweight and ergonomic soleplate, one that has been lifted straight from the retired Nemeziz line. This soleplate offers great flexibility and half-moon studs for a combination of traction and rotational ability.

The Copa Icon is available on the South African Adidas store, and priced at R4,799.
