The 2023 edition of Comic-Con CT proved to be the biggest and best iteration of the country’s biggest geek culture, cosplay, and gaming expo; and while the show had a lot to take in and enjoy, we headed down to find some of the attractions that you may have missed.

Keith Vlahakis

For those who love retro, 1960s-inspired design, you have to check out local artist Keith Vlahakis. The talented letterer, illustrator, and street artist was showcasing his work, which centres around a theme of converting modern movie imagery into 1960s-esque posters, with some of the standouts including reworkings of The Matrix, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and The Mandalorian. You can check out more of his work here.

Blockbots

Blockbots is a very interesting and unique idea that utilises recycled materials and wood blocks to create robot figure, and they’re pretty damn awesome. Blockbots have been created out of everyday consumable waste from our local beaches, recycled, reclaimed from the landfill site and sometimes even donated for a second chance in life. There’s even a backstory for their existence: “In a realm not too far from us, these little robots have risen from our landfill sites that we, the humans, have left behind in our wake of abuse and destruction of our planet.” Dope.

You can check them out here.

Goat Gaming

The gaming community in SA is booming, and a lot more havens for gamers are starting to emerge, and Goat Gaming should be on your radar if you’re looking for a spot to share your passion. The exclusive gaming lounge is based in Dunvegan, Edenvale, and was founded by a group of individuals dedicated to sharing their love of gaming with others. The spot currently offers Playstation console gaming with a variety of games, with the team also having virtual PSVR as well as racing simulators available.
