Playstation Showcase: 6 Best Trailers & Reveals
Check out all the biggest announcements from Playstation’s Showcase event.
Playstation’s Showcase event, which took place on Wednesday, 24 May, was slated to deliver some big game reveals and in-depth looks at some of the most-anticipated upcoming games — and it didn’t disappoint.
The hour-long show introduced a number of new titles and some interesting new hardware tech that Sony has been working on within the Playstation ecosystem. We’ve rounded up the best reveals and videos that headlined the show:
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Remake
Arguably the worst-kept secret of the year (but nonetheless very exciting) was the reveal of a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. We didn’t see any gameplay, but a CG trailer confirmed that the title is in development for PS5.
Spider-Man 2 Gameplay Reveal
Since its initial announcement at the end of 2021, fans have been eagerly anticipating a look at Insomniac’s Spider-Man sequel in action. Well, we got more than we bargained for, and the developer showed off 10-minutes of jaw-dropping gameplay, showcasing the symbiote suit, Kraven the Hunter, Miles Morales, and Lizard in a massive city-spanning action set-piece. Spider-Man 2 will hit PS5 in late 2023.
Assassin’s Creed: Mirage gameplay
Finally, Ubisoft showed-off some gameplay for the next AC game, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, which is being touted as a return-to-roots entry into the franchise, veering away from the overly RPG-focused mechanics of previous entries, and rather focusing on parkour, assassinations, and stealth. The game looks fantastic in action, and a lot quicker than previous AC games, making us very excited for its 12 October 2023 release.
Project Q
On the hardware front, Playstation finally revealed their long-rumoured portable companion to the PS5 console. Project Q is essentially an 8-inch tablet and controller combo used for playing games installed on your PS5 and streamed over WiFi. The company also revealed some official Playstaiton wireless earbuds.
Phantom Blade Zero
Coming out of nowhere, Phantom Blade Zero was announced, and it looks absolutely stunning. It’s a fast-paced action game from S-Game Studio, featuring a deep and dark art style, frenetic combat, and a fictitious world blending Chinese martial arts and mechanical steampunk aesthetics. We can’t wait to see more of Phantom Blade Zero in the coming months.
Alan Wake 2
After a long wait, we finally got the first-look at Alan Wake 2 in action, and it’s safe to say that fans of the original are in for a treat. The sequel to Remedy Entertainment’s 2010 survival-horror takes gamers back to Bright Falls, and puts you in the shoes of Agent Saga Anderson who has to work alongside Alan Wake himself to survive the nightmarish hellscape Alan’s mind has created. Alan Wake 2 releases on 17 October 2023.
