If thrills and frights are what you’re looking for, the rest of 2023 has some interesting horror releases to get your blood pumping, with everything from extraterrestrial scares to sequels to iconic franchises on the cards. We’ve rounded up 5 of the most-anticipated horror movies to keep on your radar.

No One Will Save You

Release date: 22 September 2023

No One Will Save You looks like it could just be one of the standout horror hits of 2023. The movie follows Brynn, an anxiety-ridden woman living in solitude in her childhood home, who suddenly has to deal with a home invasion, although, this intruder isn’t from Earth. The film is destined for a 22 September release on Hulu, and stars Kaitlyn Dever in the lead role. This could be another hit for the streaming platform, as last year’s Predator prequel, Prey, turned out to be a massive hit for the company.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines

Release date: 6 October 2023

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines serves as a prequel to the events that took place in 2019’s Pet Sematary, which was based on the iconic Stephen King novel. Set in 1969 (50 years before the events of Pet Sematary), the movie is centred on a young Jud Crandall and stars Jackson White as Jud Crandall, Forrest Goodluck, Jack Mulhern, Henry Thomas, Natalie Alyn Lind, Isabella Star LaBlanc, Samantha Mathis, Jackie Brown’s Pam Grier, and The X-Files star David Duchovny.

Dark Harvest

Release date: 13 October 2023

After being delayed a few years, Dark Harvest will see the light of day in October. The film is a chilling tale set in a cursed town, where every Halloween becomes a brutal battle for survival, because a supernatural creature, Sawtooth Jack, rises from the cornfields and makes its way toward town. The town’s ritual requires 18-year-old boys to try and kill the murderous scarecrow before midnight. Among the boys is Richie, a rebellious outcast yearning to break free from the town’s curse, driven by his brother’s victory the year before.

The Exorcist: Believer

Release date: 13 October 2023

The Exorcist: Believer is the first of two movies bringing one of horror’s most iconic franchises back to the big-screen. The Exorcist: Believer started out as a potential reboot for the famed series, but instead morphed into a sequel to the original set of films, starting all the way back with the 1973 classic; with Ellen Burstyn (one of The Exorcist‘s original actors) even reprising her role as Chris MacNeil. The film follows two girls who find themselves possessed by a powerful demonic force. Desperate, the parents go in search of someone who has had similar experiences to help them save their children from the grasp of the Hellish entity.

Thanksgiving

Release date: 17 November 2023

Coming from Eli Roth (who is known for his brutal movies), Thanksgiving is a horror slasher that is set after a Black Friday riot that ended in tragedy. Following the event, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorises Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the infamous holiday – in order to seek revenge. It looks fun, has a tongue-in-cheek attitude, and should make for a good watch for slasher fans.
