The Best X-Men Movie Everyone Forgot About

With the imminent release of Deadpool and Wolverine marking the return of everyone’s most beloved X-Men casting in Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, it’s only fair to look back at some of the best appearances from the clawed-superhero over the years; and arguably his best is that of in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Of course, we’re excluding Logan, which while a ‘superhero’ film, is much more a character piece than a superpowered spectacle, so we’re putting that aside.

Anyway, Days of Future Past is a stellar entry from the Fox/Marvel era that delivered an emotional, action-packed, and high-stakes affair, seeing the X-Men travelling back in time in order to stop the end of the world at the hands of the Sentinels. So, while Deadpool and Wolverine sees (and Avengers: Endgame saw) many of our favourite heroes going into the past to save the future, Days of Future Past did it first, and quite excellently, we might add.

Hugh Jackman takes centre stage in this 2014 entry that merged the long-awaited eras of OG X-Men cast and the new, younger ensemble that was introduced in X-Men: First Class. The film was directed by Bryan Singer too, who helmed the original two X-Men movies, so there was a true appreciation for what started it all, as the original X-Men movie from 2000 could be accredited with spurring the entire superhero revival on the big-screen.

Throw in a cast that surrounded Jackman, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Halle Berry, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Peter Dinklage, and others who all deliver some of their best work in the franchise. The result is a poignant, interesting, and emotional superhero movie that legitimately threatens the existence of the mutants and asked some interesting questions about one’s own duty and morality, and those are the kind of stakes anyone can get behind.

It’s well worth a re-watch and one of our favourite movies in this whole Marvel/Fox/Sony cinematic mash-up.
