3 Must-Watch Sports Battles This Weekend

This weekend brings a host of sporting action to enjoy, including a Currie Cup encounter that’s sure to be a cracker, a Premier League match-up that all eyes will be on, and an unmissable Bledisloe Cup clash that will undoubtedly be packed full of entertainment.

Western Province vs Blue Bulls

On the rugby front, the Currie Cup playoffs are upon us, and one of the juiciest encounters sees Western Province taking on the Blue Bulls. WP have been in solid form throughout the season, with the occasional bump, and the Bulls have started badly, but earned their right into the playoffs with recently improved performances.

Western Province have had a stellar season right the way through, except for faltering to an impressive Lions performance in Johannesburg, but the men from Cape Town have shown to have the depth and talent to topple any team.  This Bulls side is undoubtedly better than they were two months ago, but Western Province should have the firepower to see them off, even with the mercurial Handre Pollard back in the Bulls’ mix.

Manchester City vs Tottenham

Tottenham return to the Eithad for the first time since their 6-0 demolition by Manchester City last year.

The current champions of England have started well, but already sit 5 points behind an dominant-looking Chelsea side. Manchester City have history of coming from behind in their two title wins, so will have no worries despite facing one of their toughest opponents yet.  A trip to Russia in midweek and 8 matches in 4 weeks may force Pellegrini to rotate the squad, but their strong moves in this transfer window mean there will be a good team on the pitch no matter what.

After winning their first two matches of the season, Tottenham have only won once in 5 games since against Southampton. Despite this though, Spurs currently sit in 6th place on 11 points and if that is improved come Sunday evening then it will be a successful weekend for them.

Wallabies vs All Blacks

Both Australia and the All Blacks are coming off of hard losses, with the Wallabies licking their wounds from a somewhat unfortunate loss against Argentina a fortnight ago, and the All Blacks suffering their first defeat in over a year at the hands of the Springboks, either side will see the upcoming Bledisloe encounter as an opportunity for redemption.

Both sides have had some off-field drama too, causing some shifting and changes among the backs, but both the Wallabies and All Blacks have the fire-power to beat one another, it’s now just about who’s hungrier, but that said, there’s nothing quite like a determined All Black side.  The Bledisloe is the second biggest prize for either of these teams (sitting right under the World Cup), so expect a cracker as they through everything at one another for bragging rights for the next 12 months.
