Here are the movies to keep on your radar this December.
We’re at the final stretch of 2024, and December brings in some movie releases to deliver a little something for everybody — whether it be family fun or edge-of-your-seat espionage. Here are our picks for the movies releasing in December 2024:
Werewolves
Release date: 6 December 2024
We’re big fans of werewolves over here at MenStuff HQ, so any lycanthrope-themed film will catch our attention, and a new entry into the genre looks to be an absolute blessing for anyone with an affinity for the claw-‘n-roar genre. Starring Frank Grillo (Captain America: Civil War, Boss Level), Werewolves explores a supermoon event that triggered a latent gene in every human on the planet, turning anyone who entered the moonlight into a werewolf for that one night. Chaos ensued and close to a billion people died, and a year later, the Supermoon is back.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim
Release date: 6 December 2024
A gorgeous-looking animated spin-off prequel to The Lord of the Rings, The War of the Rohirrim features the voice talents of Brian Cox, Gaia Wise, Luke Pasqualino, Miranda Otto, and Laurence Ubong. It covers the untold story behind Helm’s Deep, hundreds of years before the fateful war, telling the life and bloodsoaked times of its founder, Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan.
Dirty Angels
Starring Eva Green, Maria Bakalova, Ruby Rose, Dirty Angels tells the story of a group of soldiers in an all-female commando unit who pose as members of a relief organisation to save a group of schoolgirls taken hostage by terrorists in Afghanistan.
Kraven the Hunter
Release date: 13 December 2024
Kraven the Hunter, which is rated R, continues the groundwork laid by other standalone anti-hero films, like the Venom and Morbius films, which are all interconnected and tell the origin tales of Spider-Man’s most iconic foes. Kraven the Hunter explores the beginnings and rise of Sergei Kravinoff (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a big-game hunter who is given incredible strength, speed, and tracking powers, along with the ability to influence animals.
Canary Black
Release date: 20 December 2024
In Canary Black, Kate Beckinsale stars as Avery Graves, a CIA operative, who terrorists blackmail into betraying her own country to save her kidnapped husband. Cut off from her team, she turns to her underworld contacts to survive.
Babygirl
Release date: 20 December 2024
If a spicy thriller is what you’re after this December, Babygirl looks to be a winner. Nicole Kidman stars as a high-powered CEO who puts her career and family on the line when she begins a torrid affair with a much younger intern, and things begin to take a turn for the worse.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Release date: 20 December 2024
Admittedly, no one ever thought even the first film would work, but Sonic the Hedgehog‘s leap to the big-screen has been an incredibly successful one, and with two solid entries under the franchise’s belt, a third instalment is arriving this December. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 introduces the antagonist, beloved anti-hero Shadow, voiced by none other than everyone’s breathtaking gentleman, Keanu Reeves.
Nosferatu
Release date: 25 December 2024
Over 100 years after the original’s release in 1922, the long-awaited remake of gothic horror classic Nosferatu is releasing this December. Starring Lilly-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, Bill Skarsgard, Nicholas Hoult, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the remake is directed by Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman), who has the tough task of recreating one of the most iconic horror movies of all time. The film follows a man named Hutter who is sent by his master to finalise a deal with Count Orlok. However, he soon learns that Orlok is a vampire who has his eyes set on Hutter’s wife, Ellen.
