5 Players You Need To Watch At The PE Sevens

The PE Sevens is upon us this weekend, and as the highly-anticipated South African showpiece of the Sevens World Series readies to kick-off, MenStuff takes a look at five players who are sure to light up the field over the next few days.

Seabelo Senatla (South Africa)

Seabelo Senatla tore apart defences throughout the Dubai leg of the World Series, and scored the fans’ favourite try against Australia in the final, racing onto a kick ahead from Branco du Preez just before it crossed the dead-ball line. Senatla’s speed is his strongest asset, however he is adding great support play and game-reading to his skill-set. The young South African is sure to turn up the heat in PE this weekend.

Carlin Isles (USA)

The fastest man in world rugby showed that he hasn’t lost any of his blistering pace. He burned through teams last weekend in Dubai and will surely do so once again in PE. Isles has had the odd handling error, but his decision-making is definitely on the rise, showing a good grasp of the game and settling on the right calls, whether it be to take contact, or have a go on the outside. Blink, and you’ll miss this speedy star.

Jerry Tuwai (Fiji)

Jerry Tuwai scored an absolute cracker against Wales last weekend, running almost the length of the whole pitch and beating a bunch of defenders. He has the sidestep, playmaking ability, and speed to cause serious headaches for the opposition, and his deceptive nature should be in full force at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium this weekend.

Joe Webber  (New Zealand)

The All Blacks Sevens side has found a rare commodity in Joe Webber. Not only can he finish great tries and cut through defenders with his bamboozling footwork, but he has also fitted into a playmaker role excellently after the first-phase of play. Webber knows when to have a run himself or put another one of his countrymen into some space, and that makes him unpredictable and dangerous.

Cecil Afrika (South Africa)

Cecil Afrika is not only a South African crowd favourite, but he is loved among the worldwide Sevens community. The Blitzbokke playmaker needs just 12 more points to better the all-time points scoring record of 925 held by Sevens legend Fabian Juries, so it should be a massive tournament and milestone for Afrika.
