SA Director Neill Blomkamp Lands New Alien Sequel
It’s official – Alien 5 is coming…

When District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp posted some Alien sequel concept art via his social media channels earlier this year, the general assumption was that it would just be nothing more than fan-art. Well, it’s turned out to be a lot more than that. A whole more…
20th Century Fox caught wind of the great internet reception to Blomkamp’s unofficial work on his idea of an Alien sequel, and has decided to give him the greenlight to create and direct the film.
Blomkamp took to his Instagram account to post a picture of the xenomorph, with the sentence “Um… So I think it’s officially my next film #alien”.
As the internet began to melt, it didn’t take long for 20th Century Fox to clarify this.
It has since confirmed that Blomkamp’s project is an official sequel (not prequel) in the Alien series. What’s unconfirmed thus far is whether – as the director had been hinting – Sigourney Weaver would return to play Ripley. But it’s no secret that she’s aware of the idea, and had been working with Blomkamp on Chappie, which arrives in cinemas next month.
Furthermore, it’s also been confirmed that this doesn’t replace Prometheus 2, which is still happening, and is still set for release on 4 March 2016.
If Blomkamp is looking for some help with his new Alien movie, he could do a lot worse than talk to the team behind the Alien: Isolation video game. They managed to capture the tone and feel of the first two Alien movies better than anyone has managed since.
