Samsung Galaxy S6 – Everything You Need To Know
Samsung has dropped the details on its snazzy new devices, and here’s what you need to know…
After numerous teases, Samsung has finally unveiled its latest flagship smartphones – the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, but what exactly makes these two new top-tier contenders different?
Well, the Galaxy S6 has the same sized 5.1-inch screen and button placements as the Galaxy S5, but is made of a solid metal frame with Gorilla Glass 4 on both sides giving it a completely different look and feel. The display is now QHD (2560×1440), and the internals have been bumped up to support it — with an Exynos octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM and 32/64/128GB of storage.
With the design change Samsung also decided to remove the seemingly-popular SDcard slot and removable battery (which is a smaller 2550mAh unit), and instead thinned out the phone to just 6.8mm thick and included wireless charging capabilities.
The Galaxy S6 launches globally at the beginning of April in four different colors — white, black, gold and blue.
The Galaxy S6 edge is closely related to the “standard” Galaxy S6 but the long edges of the phone are curved over the sides, much like the Galaxy Note 4 edge. It sports the same Exynos octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM and base 32GB of storage, but the 5.1-inch QHD display is simply curved on the sides.
There’s no persistent edge screen software loaded — just a couple simple gestures that can be done from either edge to show contacts or missed calls and emails. The edges can also show a subtle desk clock at night or flash with bright colors when a call comes in and the phone is face-down on a table.
The Galaxy S6 edge also comes in its own exclusive color, a deep green that covers the front and back of the phone. It joins the standard black, white and gold colors that are also available on the Galaxy S6.
