Weekend sports preview

It’s weekend, and that means that the sporting fixture list is packed full of some epic encounters taking place over the next few days, and we got you covered with which clashes you’ve got to keep your eyes on.

Reds vs Lions (Super Rugby)

Friday, 11:00

The match-up between the Reds and Lions is an interesting encounter for both teams. The hosts have had an unfortunate start to the tournament, winning only one match against the Force in Round 2 and losing many players to injury. However, there luck is turning with the return of Quade Cooper, James O’Connor, Lachlan Turner, and Ben Daley. On the other hand, the Lions have had a rather successful tour so far, winning two of the three games so far. Taking down the Reds would be a great scalp for the Johannesburg team to round off their tour, and with the Reds’ shaky and untested new setup, it’s a likely possibility.

South Africa vs France (World Sevens Series)

Saturday, 11:04

The World Sevens Series returns this weekend and Hong Kong is the venue where all the action will unfold. South Africa go into the tournament holding the top spot on the overall log and will be looking to further their lead with another Cup win. The Blitzbokke play Argentina and Japan before taking on France in the final pool game, which will be the highlight of the bunch. If South Africa progress through to the Cup playoffs, keep an eye on the fixture list to see which matches are heading our way.

Bulls vs Crusaders (Super Rugby)

Saturday, 19:10

The two Super Rugby giants meet once again, although things are a little different this time around. The Bulls haven’t been in their best form as of late, but are slowly creeping their way back into the tournament runnings. The Crusaders have had their usual slow-start to the competition but are beginning to show the class that they’re known to posses. The encounter at Loftus will be in the favour of the hosts after the long travel time for the Kiwis, but the Crusaders have also become accustomed to the South African style of play, so an away win could be on the cards for Richie McCaw’s men.

Australia vs New Zealand (ICC Cricket World Cup Final)

Sunday, 03:00

An amazing week of cricket culminates in Sunday’s huge World Cup Final at the MCG between two old foes. Both Australia and New Zealand are coming off impressive semi-final victories and will be committing every ounce of their being to World Cup triumph. The Black Caps advance to the final following a final-over thriller against the Proteas, meanwhile the Aussies qualified for their seventh final with a comfortable 95-run victory over the Indians. Strap yourselves in because this is going to be a cracker.

South Africa vs Nigeria (International Football Friendly)

Sunday, 15:00

Nigeria play South Africa in an exciting friendly scheduled for Sunday at the Mbombela Stadium. After their failure to qualify for the 2015 AFCON, the Super Eagles will be testing some new names introduced to the squad while Bafana Bafana will be looking to continue their progress after their impressive performaces during the 2015 AFCON. It should be an exciting encounter that will test the growing mettle of Bafana Bafana.
