A New Zealand cricket fan turned his chilled-out afternoon of sports-watching into one of his most memorable when he pulled off a stunning catch to win NZ$5,000 (around R43,700).
Andrew McCulloch was the lad who slid bear-foot and nabbed the ball (struck by Otago Volts’ Michael Bracewell) with one hand in the grass area of the grounds, and in doing so, won the cash-prize which was part of a promotional offer for any spectator who could catch the ball on the full.
McCulloch revealed in an interview after that match that he intended to use the money to pay off credit cards bills.
