Men love super cars, and there are various theories as to why we do. It is believed that high-performance vehicles represent our personalities, quirks, passions and needs. Some of us love the feeling of being in control while we’re driving them, while others just fall in love with a sports car and develop an emotional attachment to it. Such passion also extends to accessorising cars with the latest gadgets to protect the vehicle and enhance the driving experience.

Dash Cam

High performance vehicles are expensive, so it’s normal to consider options before buying your dream ride, and search for something that speaks to your individual tastes and lifestyle. You’ll also want to protect your investment in case of road incidents. A dash cam can provide evidence of what has happened on the road and inside your car by continuously recording views and scenes. Plessis, a legal advisor at Risk Benefit Solutions (RBS) recommends installing a dash cam in every car to prevent financial losses in the event of an accident. He says, “A dash cam can definitely help vehicle owners to avoid being held liable for an accident.”

Tracking Device

Around 45 cars are stolen or hijacked every day in South Africa, according to the published crime stats for 2018 by the South African Police Service (SAPS). If your sports car does not have a tracking device installed in it, consider adding one, as it can help you recover your car if it gets stolen. Phillip Opperman, the South African President of the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators said that a tracking device helped recover 87% of cars that were hijacked.

Professional Breathalyser

Everyone knows how dangerous drinking and driving can be, but sometimes it can be hard to know if you’re over the limit. This is where a professional breathalyser comes in handy. Simply blow into the device, and it will tell you if your blood alcohol content (BAC) is within legal limits. In South Africa, the BAC limit is less than 0.05g per 100ml of blood. Anyone caught drinking and driving faces stiff fines, including penalties and prison time of up to six years, if found guilty. Although the number of fatalities decreased by 48% from 309 last year to 162 this year, road safety is a very important issue, and preventing drink driving can save thousands of lives and prevent destruction to property.

Jump Starter

Going on road trips with your super car is great. Unfortunately, if your battery dies and there’s no one around to help, you’ll need a jump starter. The portable Schumacher Jump Starter lets you jump start your car without needing another vehicle. It also allows you to test your battery and your alternator.

There are lots of little devices designed to help you stay safe on the road and improve your driving comfort, ultimately enhancing your sports car experience while protecting the safety of other road users.
