Did You Know There is A Short Wheelbase Toyota Landcruiser?
Toyota showcases its SWB Landcruiser.
One of South Africa’s favourite vehicles, the Toyota Landcruiser, is known for its size and versatility, but did you know that there is a short wheelbase of the beloved 4×4? However, there is some good news and some bad news.
The good news is that, well, it exists in a market shy of great 3-door 4x4s. The bad news is that it’s currently only going on sale in the United Arab Emirates, for now.
The rugged new three-door SWB 71 Series Landcruiser features a 4.0-litre V6 petrol engine on a shrunken 2310mm wheelbase, 420mm shorter than the bigger version you’d find on South African roads.
On top of that, you get a 16-inch alloy wheels, black plastic wheel-arches, LED headlights (with adaptive high beam) and front fog lamps. Inside, the three-door LC71 has tan synthetic leather seats and a 9.0-inch infotainment system. Both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, along with safety tech such as pre-collision detection and lane departure alert.
The 2024 SWB Toyota Landcruiser 71 Series is priced at 169,900 AED (around R870,000). Let’s hope we see some of these Toyota Landcruiser ‘shortys’ on South African roads in time to come.
