Haval has made its presence in South Africa more and more apparent over the past few years, and no other vehicle has done that more prominently than the brand’s street-dominating Haval H6. This midsize SUV has been grabbing attention across the country for its brilliant technology and luxurious offering, especially at its price-point. Are you also planning to buy an SUV that offers these features? If so, here’s everything you need to know about this powerful beast.

Interiors of Haval H6

Before we get under the hood, the Haval H6 offers a great experience regarding material choices, trims, finishes, and overall aesthetics. It flaunts a minimalistic style with a few chic trim bits, creating something that isn’t too flashy or overstated, but has its own unique ‘look’ on the road. Moreover, it also comes with swanky speaker covers resembling the Brumesters used in Mercedes-Benz, so you get the interior quality to match the sharp appearance.

The Haval H6 also features some high-tech goodness that most South Africans will appreciate, such as the automatic-unlock functionality when you approach the car with its key in your pocket. It also includes a very responsive and powerful steering system, along with a power-adaptable driver seat that, admittedly, does lack thigh support and is a little flat for our liking.

But, with that said, the leather trim design offers great comfort. Both front seats are heated and have a nice luxurious feel, and you also get a powerful digital display in the car that features a host of bells and whistles. It not only shows the car and engine speeds in a beautiful digital readout, but also the tyre pressure and lane-assist animation, when it’s needed, of course. Connectivity and Infotainment

A nice touch is that the H6 features two 10.25-inch screens for infotainment, one in the centre and one in front of the driver, which helps you keep your eye on the important elements and metrics while driving, while also having your entertainment or media apps running on the console display.

While the futuristic design and touch-only displays are a fantastic addition to a car of this echelon, there aren’t any tactile or physical buttons, so you will have to get used to the touch-functionality of the car. It’s not a deal-breaker, but for those old-school, tangible-loving drivers, it’s good to take note of.

The vehicle does also feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so any OS users will be right at home when using the infotainment system.

Safety Features

For those looking at the H6 as a potential family go-to vehicle, it delivered the goods in terms of safety results. In the side impact and oblique pole crash tests, full points were given for driver protection; also, full points were given to front and rear-seat occupants for whiplash protection. The only shortcoming was that the H6 results were penalised because there was some integrity loss in the driver’s footwell.

Seven airbags, including a front centre bag, are standard on the Haval H6, and it also comes with an active safety package that includes autonomous emergency braking with cyclist and pedestrian identification and traffic sign recognition.

Moreover, it also has driver tiredness monitoring, blind-spot detection, lane-change assist, and lane-departure warning. The Haval H6 Lux model also has stop-and-go traffic assistance and adaptive cruise control, which should be a consideration if you’re commuting long distances and deal with traffic daily.

Is Haval H6 Worth Your Investment?

While still a relatively ‘new’ addition to the South African SUV market, the Haval H6 is a great car that offers all the latest features at a very reasonable price. It is comfortable, chic, and edgy, and the perfect family car for those looking for ample leg and storage space.

It works well for extended trips and has good support and adjustability when it comes to those creature comforts that make road trips more appealing. There is plenty of room for the backseat passengers, air vents and charging connections, and when the 60:40 seats are folded, the boot expands to 1485 L from its standard 600 L, which makes it very dynamic as a vehicle with some carrying capabilities too.

With its upbeat style and design, impressive technology, and superb safety features, it’s hard not to label the Haval H6 as a decent buy.
