Isuzu’s bakkies have been a hugely popular option in South Africa for quite some time, but they haven’t had a new SUV become a part of their stable since 1998. Their new mu-X will expand their range to include a more sophisticated and leisurely SUV that will compete with other established Japanese brands that have a large foothold in the South African market.

Isuzu already launched the mu-X in Thailand, Australia, and the Philippines, where it enjoys a large market share – a feat they’ll be hoping it will be able to match in South Africa. It won’t be an easy task, though, as SUVs are exceptionally popular with a lot of different brands and models for consumers to choose from.

The exact engine, transmission, and chassis specifications haven’t been announced yet, but a 3-litre engine and 5-link rear suspension seems to be on the cards for the South African variant.

Stay tuned for more details that will be announced closer to its release date. Does this newcomer have what it takes to topple the likes of the Toyota Fortuner?
