After a successful showing at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show, Mazda has released some images and specs for a few upcoming vehicles in their pipeline. However, the one that drew the most enthusiasm was what they called concept ‘Kai’ – which is being labeled as the next stylistic-step in the popular Mazda 3’s lineage, slated for a 2019 release.

As is obvious from the images above, Mazda has gone for quite a sleek, futuristic design that takes some cues from a few other auto manufacturers. The rear-end, for example, looks a little reminiscent of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. Considering Alfa’s reputation for making exceptionally attractive cars, it’s definitely a positive sign for the Kai to be drawing those comparisons.

Of course, being a concept, there’s a good chance that the final product may not feature all the aesthetic elements of the prototype. Manufacturers are usually quite adventurous and brazen when it comes to concepts, but ultimately turn down the volume a bit for the production vehicle. Even with adjustments though, the Kai looks fantastic and would likely be one of the best looking cars on the road.

With quite a number of aggressive, but stylish lines and curves does this potential successor to the Mazda3 name get your seal of approval? Let us know and check out our feature of the Top 5 Hatchbacks Available in SA!
