Rebels and Wallabies fullback and playmaker Kurtley Beale will return to playing rugby following a period in a private health facility.

Beale voluntarily entered the facility after he was involved in a number of misconducts which involved the use of alcohol.

“Following discussions between the ARU, RUPA and the Melbourne Rebels, and Kurtley’s departure from the health facility, all parties have agreed that it is in Kurtley’s best interest and welfare to remain in Sydney around his support network for the foreseeable future,” said the Rebels in a statement.

Kurtley will play for his club Randwick in the Sydney Shute Shield Competition during this time.

With regards to his misconducts, Beale’s problematic antics initially made headlines this year when he had a reported altercation with Rebels teammates Gareth Delve and Cooper Vuna in South Africa in March.

Beale then broke an agreement to abstain from alcohol when he drank while attending a rugby league match between the Melbourne Storm and Canberra Raiders in May.

Beale’s possible inclusion in the Wallaby squad to face the British & Irish Lions is conditional upon the playmaker’s success in his off-field rehabilitation.

“Any future selection will be dependent upon successful completion of his treatment programme,” said the statement.

Beale was one of Rugby Informer’s options when discussing who should wear the Wallaby number 10 jersey?
