The Blues overcame the Hurricanes in Wellington with a surprising 34-20 win for the visitors.

Frank Halai opened the try-scorers list for the game, as some quick hands by the backline gave the powerful sevens player to get into the corner untouched.

The Hurricanes hit back with a great movement of their own, with forwards and backs combining with some slick passing to put Julian Savea over the tryline.

After some attacking phases, the Blues backline proved clinical once again, as Charles Piutau was put through a gap to grab another 5-pointer.

Savea showcased his blistering speed as he chased down a kick from Beauden Barrett. To prevent Savea from dotting down, the ball was knocked over the dead-ball line intentionally a Blues defender, which resulted in the Hurricanes being awarded a penalty try.

Rene Ranger showed his strength and explosive nature, as from 7m out, he pushed defenders aside, put his head down and surged towards the line, securing a try for himself.

Frank Halai got his second try when he was put into some space thanks to an overlap. The defence were unable to stop the big winger from crashing over the line.

Barrett and Weepu’s kicking duel did keep the teams within contention of one another, although it was the Blues’ clinical finishing that separated the two teams.
