Despite a spirited performance by the Kings on Friday, 15 March, the Chiefs managed to defeat the home team 35-24 in Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth, in Round 5 of the 2013 Super Rugby tournament.

The opening 20 minutes saw the two teams exchange penalties through Catrakilis and Anscombe, but it was Masaga who grabbed the opening try after a great backline movement orchestrated by Cruden.

Masaga seemed to have found his form and confidence throughout the night, as he picked up a second try in the 30th minute, rounding off a great passage of play by the Chiefs.

The Kings managed to strike back when 18-year old Sergeal Petersen picked up a loose Chiefs pass and raced 90 meters to score under the posts.

Sam Cane continued his great form this season by using his strength to barge over the line to push the Chiefs further ahead.

While already having two tries, Masaga finally got to really stretch his legs, as some great hands put him in space to speed down the sideline and over for another try in the corner.

One of the standout performers of the Kings has been Jacques Engelbrecht, and his picked up a deserved try when he crashed over in the 60th minute.

While the Kings continued to play well, Anscombe’s accurate kicking kept the Chiefs out of reach until the final whistle.
