Kurtley Beale signs with Waratahs
Troubled playmaker gets a new lease on rugby career with his former team, the NSW Waratahs

Wallaby fullback Kurtley Beale has signed with the NSW Waratahs after some uncertainty with his future after his contract came to an end with the Melbourne Rebels.
Beale has signed a one-year deal with the Waratahs and is expected to aim at the flyhalf position, but with stiff competition, as Bernard Foley made the number 10 jersey his own in 2013.
“I’m really excited to be coming home and to be playing under [NSW coach] Michael Cheika and the coaching team at NSW,” said Beale. “I feel at home in Sydney, it’s where my family are. The Waratahs are a team going places and I’m really looking forward to playing some good, consistent rugby.”
Waratahs’ coach Michael Cheika praised Beale and sees him as a huge asset to the club.
“Kurtley is an extremely talented player and we can’t wait to see him back in a sky blue jersey and playing our style of game.”
With regards to his misconducts, Beale’s problematic antics initially made headlines this year when he had a reported altercation with Rebels teammates Gareth Delve and Cooper Vuna in South Africa in March.
Beale then broke an agreement to abstain from alcohol when he drank while attending a rugby league match between the Melbourne Storm and Canberra Raiders in May.
Despite the troubles, Beale was selected in the Wallaby squad to face the British and Irish Lions, and although the Australians lost the series, Beale once again showed potential in his play.
