Nonu to France

All Blacks centre Ma’a Nonu’s future is rather uncertain since the conclusion of the Super Rugby season and the 31-year old departing from the Highlanders, but it appears that Nonu may be heading to the Northern Hemisphere, if reports are to be believed.

L’Equipe is reporting that the tackle-busting back is being sought out by Top 14 side Clermont Auvergne, who are looking to bolster their backline with the dreadlocked centre.

The NZRU have yet to find a Super Rugby franchise for Nonu, and an overseas sabbatical is increasingly becoming the only solution.

Nonu is still in contract with the All Blacks ahead of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, and would require a letter of release from the NZRU.

If Nonu were to join Clermont, he would meet up with former All Blacks winger Sitiveni Sivivatu, and other Kiwis, Mike Delaney, Benson Stanley and Regan King.

Would be great for Nonu’s game! The northern hemisphere’s club rugby seems to be focused on running backs and backline moves, so it would be a natural fit for the big man.

Totally – he’s struggling to find his feet in Super Rugby since leaving the Hurricanes. He didn’t work with the Blues and he had little impact at the Highlanders – maybe Clermont is a good option for him, and considering his age, it’s not a bad career move. He would work well in the exciting Clermont backline, next to Wesley Fofana!

Agreed! he also has the physical presence that the northern hemisphere teams lack at times. He has the ability to run at players and trample them, as well as the technical ability to create some sick plays. At times, i feel, as if the northern hemisphere rugby has a fluidity to it that allows the running backs to play and be more free, yet they become less technical at times as they get more time on the ball. At his age and at this time in his career, i think this is the perfect move. He’s a big name player and will earn good money!
